We spoke about a remix I slept on for years, “Oblighetto” by Brother Jack McDuff. I always knew about the record from sampling it on my own but somehow I managed to overlook Dilla’s take on it. When I saw the 45 I flipped – “A fucking 45!” Wow! Rich always had to nack to shock me with records and his extensive knowledge of them. In our convo he made some interesting points. Here’s an instrumental from the Universal Records release I mentioned last month. No samples on this one – the UK publishing company was super strict about that. It started as a ruff idea produced on my keyboard and turned into a full live string production. We recorded it and mixed it in two days at a full studio near Detroit where I always use the same engineer, grammy winning Todd Fairall. Keep a lookout for it in the background of some TV shows. Monica Blaire – Set Me Free [Audio]

Produced by Waajeed & Maestro. I’ve worked with Monica Blaire several times over the last couple years, and everytime has been a pleasure. She’s focused, efficient, and talented as hell. Along with her primary producer Maestro (of Silent Riot) – together we are a Dream Team. When we collaborated for a track on he 2006 project titled, “Portrait of Me,” I had no idea we would make one of my more notable tracks to date. This one is a classic in the hearts of Detroiters and those in the know.Originally I did this beat in a hotel in Manchester, England as a submission for John Legend’s sophomore album Once Again. After a rough track was done, it needed something else to bring it home. Maestro added the perfect ingredients to fill it out and make it bigger. He killed it. I guess it was too left for John, so Monica Blaire stepped in and wrote some of the most stellar lyrics I’ve ever heard. When Maestro played it for the first time it hit me right in the gut! At some point when the time is right I’d love to reconnect with my Dream Team. Until then, feast on this. – Jeedo

Remix of Deep Inside by PPP feat. SA-RA. Produced by Waajeed and Selan. I remixed this track for a Mix CD I sold on the road to support the Abundance Album. It had some circulation, but I felt y’all should get a chance to download it in full. I met Taz Arnold while sharing the same London based management. He came out to the D and shortly afterwards, I met him and Major in LA where we recorded “Concrete Nigga.” We recorded in Michael Jackson’s studio where he had a 4 ft. high room over the recording booth for his monkey Bubbles to watch him record — No, Bubbles was not there and the room did not smell like monkey shit. I got some help from the homie Selan on the boards. Two step to this. – Jeedo

Slum Village was a cornerstone of style for too many emcees to name. “The Hustle”, was one of the many tracks they displayed this effortless swag. DJ Dez was the DJ for Slum for many, many years.
