In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Eric B. & Rakim’s Paid In Full album (originally released July 7, 1987), author Brian Coleman has teamed up with renowned DJ and radio personality DJ Eclipse to bring the world a new concept – a podcast using original interview tapes, blended with music including the tracks discussed in the interviews as well as the original music sampled to make those tracks. The interview in question, featured as the centerpiece of this new DJ Eclipse mix, was conducted by Coleman with the legendary MC Rakim in the early 2000s, and appeared in Coleman’s first two books, Rakim Told Me and Check the Technique [Volume 1]: Liner Notes for Hip-Hop Junkies. King Magnetic feat. Masta Ace, Slug & DJ Eclipse – Alone [Audio]

On his brand-new banger “Alone,” King Magnetic trades fiery verses with two living rap legends, Slug (of Atmosphere) and Masta Ace, over hard-hitting production from Khrysis. Making the cipher complete is Queens’ own DJ Eclipse, who provides the slick scratches on the hook. The release of “Alone” follows two other heaters off Mag’s upcoming album, ‘Everything Happens 4 A Reason’: the symphonic slapper, “I’ll Show You” featuring Cappadonna and Dink, and the project’s inaugural leak, “Cash 4 Catastrophe” which was accompanied with a video: youtu.be/s_IqXSFglAs Just as fans enjoyed the real-talk of “Cash,” we’re treated to Hip-Hop in its purest form on “Alone.” Of course, we have King Mag and his teeth-gritting bars to thank for that, in addition to the always-sharp rhymes of his guests. Slug and Ace are the type of elder-rap statesmen who haven’t once lost a step in their decades-long careers, whether they’re talking their sh*t or serving up wisdom. The two provide a fine offering of both on “Alone” alongside King Mag, who in addition to his upcoming album is getting ready to hit the road soon. He’ll be touring alongside Wu-Tang Clan heavyweight Cappadonna, and up-and-comer Recognize Ali. “Alone” can now be played through all major streaming outlets, and is available for download as the third and final instant grat track off the iTunes pre-order for EH4AR, which drops next Friday (3/31) through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms via King Mag Music.

The Halftime Show w/ DJ Riz & DJ Eclipse (With Special Guests Eminem & Royce Da 5’9″) (1998) [Audio]

Merry Christmas everyone! Here goes another Halftime show from ’98 with guests Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ (85:53). Short interview right into the freestyle session (if only cats today were as hungry as the 90s generation). As usual, Riz sets off the show lovely and then half way through I get on to finish up. Always good listening to the mic breaks to see what was going on during that time (i.e. Tramps shows, Fat Beats in-stores, new mixer…thanks Fat Beats!) (52:25). So much good music played. Last mic break at 147:39. Enjoy.

The Stretch & Bobbito Show w/ DJ Riz, Eclipse, Fat Joe & Big Pun 89.9 WKCR (August 31, 1995) [Audio]

“I always recorded my guest sets on KCR so I couldn’t for the life of me understand why I wouldn’t have the one Riz and I did when Fat Joe brought up Big Pun for the first time (along w/Armageddon & Keith Nut). Come to find out I forgot to label the tapes with the date. Anyway, seems only fitting to post this today on Pun’s birthday. Joe starts the interview (151:40) and plays some joints off his album before introducing everyone to the mic (167:42). I threw on “Broken Language” and Pun set it all off. Other dope moments were the Pumpkinhead, Natural Elements and O.C./Poops promos that Bob started off the night with before Riz got on (10:20) and showed off (see Nas Remix). Bobbito plays a demo set in the middle of the show (113:15) before Terror Squad arrives and then I close it out (179:22). And what would a Stretch & Bobbito show be without comedy from Lord Sear (228:30) For more insight on this Pun appearance check out the movie “Stretch & Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives”.” – DJ Eclipse
