Killer Mike is back in action with the release of his sixth studio album, “MICHAEL”.
“This is my come home moment musically,” Mike told Zane Lowe during an interview on Apple Music. “It is the music that influenced me. It is gospel, it is soul, it is funk, it is hip hop. And from a moral standpoint, I was taught morality through the Black Southern Christian Church, which gave us the civil rights movement, the abolitionist movement, which gave us some of the most beautiful music ever. And I feel like I’m honoring that and I finally figured out my place. It is my submission to God, like, ‘Okay, you got me.’”
With a total of 14 tracks, among them the deeply heartfelt “Motherless” and “Scientists & Engineers” featuring André 3000 and Future (both songs showcasing the incredible talents of Eryn Allen Kane), the album also boasts collaborations with El-P (as expected), 2 Chainz, Curren$y, CeeLo Green, 6LACK, Young Thug, Mozzy, Jagged Edge, Blxst, Kaash Paige, Fabo, and Ty Dolla $ign. All of these artists come together to support Mike in conveying the “glorious story and beautiful nuances” of the experience of growing up as a Black boy in the deeply religious south, specifically The Westside of Atlanta.
