Zaytoven and Jay Claxton stopped by Sway In The Morning and talked about new moves. The hip-hop hitmakers are currently in the city for the Remy Producers Series. Zaytoven disclosed that he has a movie coming out around Christmas, Birds of a Feather II, jokingly claiming, “it’s the best movie since Titanic.” He also revealed that he’s exploring new endeavors by working with R&B artist Trey Songz and is putting out his first official album “Trap HoliZay” under Capital/Motown.

Gucci Mane & Zaytoven Live From Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York [Video]

Watch Gucci Mane & Zaytoven’s exclusive live performance from Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York. Gucci Mane and Zaytoven are the godfathers of rap music currently coming out of Atlanta. Their unorthodox approaches ushered in a new era in the city. From Young Thug to Metro Boomin, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert and Migos, Atlanta rap’s current who’s-who bears unmistakable marks of their influence, either indirectly or through near-filial kinship. Together, they’ve brought you hits like “Icy” and “Bricks,” and their collaboration on “First Day Out Da Feds” marked Gucci Mane’s triumphant, rejuvenated return from prison in 2016. Following Zaytoven’s appearance at last year’s Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York as part of our “Trapped” double-header, we now present the next step in the evolution of both of these influential artists’ careers. For one evening only, the rapper-producer duo will deliver throwback piano bar renditions of some of their most famous tunes – voice (Gucci) and piano (Zay) only.

Watch Gucci Mane & Zaytoven’s Tiny Desk Concert [Video]

Gucci Mane’s smile makes you feel like there’s still some good in the world. He’s really earned it, and that thing is infectious. We asked him to come to NPR because we wanted to be a part of the victory tour he’s been on this year: In the past six months or so, Gucci Mane was released early from the federal penitentiary; he proposed to his girlfriend on the kiss cam at a Hawks game, and she said yes; he’s releasing a total of three albums, all over which he celebrates his newly committed sobriety; he and Courtney Love look like they get along; and he remade “Jingle Bells.” In this Tiny Desk concert, Gucci Mane performed with just his longtime producer and friend, Zaytoven, on piano. Their version of stripped-down is a minimal backing track and plenty of church-groomed trills. They performed with the understanding that everyone in the room knew their songs — one from 2009 and two from this year — and knew that this performance would represent a surreal dip into a parallel universe where ingenuity is rewarded, snobbery is gone and love is real. Gucci Mane agreed to this unlikely set as a gesture to those people — for remembering his work while he was away, and for cheering on his resurgence, his health, his charm and his singular nature. “The Return Of East Atlanta Santa” will be available on Dec. 16, 2016, exclusively on iTunes and Apple Music.

Zaytoven: “Future’s ‘Beastmode 16’ Is Done, Gucci & Future Working Quickly” [Video]

Between working with Gucci Mane and Future, producer Zaytoven explains the difference between the two stars’ sound and why the What a Time to Be Alive rapper likes to release back-to-back projects. During an interview with DJ Vlad, Zaytoven compared his working relationship with Gucci to the likes of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. “We created a sound that belongs in the rap game right now. What we have together is something unbreakable, like a Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. We have created something so special that I don’t think it’s going anywhere.” Further, the producer talked about Future creating his orchestrated sound and why he chose to feed fans with new records continuously. “Just us two alone have done 100 songs. It’s cool to let all that music sit there on the hard drive…but I think the fans now have ADD. One project you gave us last month, that ain’t enough.” With critics claiming the rapper may burn himself out by oversaturating the market with his music, Zaytoven explains the strategy these days is necessary to stay relevant. “The way to stay on fire is to keep giving, keep feeding these folks.” He said, “Or you can cool off and somebody else can come in and really kind of take the spots.”

SUPER w/ Zaytoven [Video]

For this episode of SUPER, we linked with super-producer Zaytoven. Zaytoven is a musical mastermind. Hailing from Oakland, but firmly based in Atlanta, he was worked with some of the most notable names in hip hop from Migos and Future to Young Thug, and Lil Uzi Vert, and of course, Gucci Mane. A long time confidant of Gucci, he produced on the rapper’s 9th studio album, Everybody Looking, shortly after the Trap God was released from prison this summer. The beat-maker sat down with us to describe how he would envision himself as a superhero. Considering Zay’s rhythmic prowess, it’s not wonder his alter-ego would take on the form of Mr. Funky Fingers, a metahuman who possesses ultra-symphonic powers and is on a mission to save music.
