Sage The Gemini

Sage The Gemini is one of the newcomers on Wiz Khalifa’s annual “Under The Influence” tour, alongside some more seasoned rappers like Wiz himself and Jeezy. We caught up with Sage on the road, as we did with Wiz, Iamsu!, Rich Homie Quan and Ty Dolla $ign, and spoke to the rapper about going on his first major tour, his creative side and more. The HBK Gang rapper assures us he’s got more up his sleeve than his break out singles “Gas Pedal” and “Red Nose”, the latter of which he said he made in order to get a hit on the radio (success). He also reveals the concept of an upcoming song which proves his more creative side.

Before his smash hit, and Vine classic, “Red Nose”, rapper Sage The Gemini had a few different career opportunities he was considering. In our exclusive interview, Sage talks about being a part of a travelling crew of stage players and making it down to Southern California as a part of their show tour. Sage also talks possible attention from the famous/infamous Tyler Perry, whose scouting team visited a few of his shows. One other avenue the rapper could have taken was modeling. Sage, who’s actually pretty funny, chops it up with Vlad about his potential modeling career and the different type of attention he started getting from the moms of some of his friends. Sage the Gemini chopped it up with VladTV about being a young father, his relationship with his daughter’s mother, and her initial reaction to his neck tattoo. Sage shared that his high school sweetheart was brought to tears when she first saw his large dragon neck tattoo, concerned that he’d never be able to get a “real job.” He assured her he could cover it with a collar if he needed to, but luckily now that he’s rich, it’s not a problem. The Bay area rapper also shared that he became a father at 18 years old, but he and his girlfriend decided to split up soon after the baby was born. However, he admires his ex and states she’s a very intelligent woman who’s a great mother. He says it’s very hard being away from his daughter and he even has dreams about her while on the road, and knew he’d be able to provide for her whether or not he made it in the rap game.

Sage the Gemini explains the meaning behind the title of “Shake it Like a Red Nose,” revealing that it’s not about pit bulls, but rather another way to say “shake that ass.” He then speaks about his own past with pit bulls, saying that at one point he had 24, but they were all sold or ran away. The conversation then turns to autotune after Sage reveals his decision to use it on the aformetioned track, and Sage reveals he’s a big fan of the software. When asked specifically about T-Pain, Sage says he loves the rapper/singer’s work and adds that he doesn’t need autotune to sound better. As for himself, the “Gas Pedal” rapper doesn’t think he needs autotune either, but adds that it “help you hit that note a little better.”
