On Monday, Remy Banks shared his two-years-in-the-making project “higher.“, which arrives just as his first nationwide tour with Earl Sweatshirt and Vince Staples is wrapping up. We got a chance to chop it up with the World’s Fair general when he was at home in NYC, and got the scoop on his early rapping days, the making of “higher.“, and his plans for the future. On the new project, Banks’ chemistry with Ratking producer Sportinglife is immediately evident, and here, Banks explains that he instantly loved the group’s music when he heard it on tour, and made a point of getting into contact with the skilled beatmaker. Detailing additional collabs with D.R.A.M., Syd Tha Kyd, Left Brain, Black Noi$e and his own World’s Fair teammates, Banks speaks to the importance of balancing collabs with friends with maintaining his own distinct voice. After hearing the tape, it’s safe to say he did a great job of it.
