Mr. Green & Slaughter Rico – East Coast (Live From The Streets) [Video]

Here’s the latest episode of Live from the Streets featuring Slaughter Rico and the East Coast Gas Station. And here’s what Mr. Green had to say: “This episode was recorded entirely at the East Coast Gas Station in North Philadelphia. First we met up with Philly legend Slaughter Rico (look up “5 Dolla Nigga”) and started grabbing sounds from the car. We got stuff from the trunk, the glove box, the keys, the horn, the ignition beep and a couple random other things from around the station. Then I loaded the sounds in the beat machine and chopped them up. Finally, Slaughter Rico dropped a crazy verse over the beat.” Mr. Green and crew inviting people to make their own beats from the car sounds. Click here to download the sounds from this episode.

Mr. Green feat. Rime, Wen, Chocolatte Lady & Mr. Do Or Die (Live From The Streets) [Video]

Here’s the special Live from the Streets sampled entirely at Miami Art Basel featuring famed grafitti artists Rime and Wen, psychedelic drugs, and other assorted characters. And here’s what Mr. Green had to say: “This episode is different because it’s the first time we’ve gone outside the boundaries of hip hop. Basically, Rime, a legendary graffiti writer, invited the OG Live from the Streets crew, Sam Lipman-Stern and myself, to Miami for Art Basel to make a film with him, the Seventh Letter, and the Klughaus Gallery. The plan was for Rime and several other famous graffiti writers to paint a bunch of rental trucks and then drive them all over the city. While that happened, it was my job to DJ out the back of the truck while Rime’s minion Meca, a former professional heavy metal drummer, played drums on the roof and Sam filmed all the madness. After the trip, Rime said he envisioned me making a “Miami Freestyle” beat out of some of the stand-out sounds from the trip. Even though it’s not something I would normally do, since Rime is such a master at what he does I decided to follow his vision and make something much faster and more dancy than anything I’ve ever done. Enjoy!”

Mr. Green feat. Country, Pacewon & Skrewtape – Tent City (Live From The Streets) [Video + MP3]

On our way to back Philly we would always pass a slightly scary looking tent city on the side of the highway in Camden NJ. We were fascinated by it, we wondered what goes on there, who lives there, and what the people were like. One day we finally mustered up enough courage to go inside. We arrived in the afternoon, and after walking up the long dusty path we were immediately greeted by Country, the assistant Mayor of Tent City. We were blown away by his charisma, charm and overall positive outlook on life. He was so interesting that we spoke to him close to 30 minutes before we even knew that he was a singer. Once he sung a few notes, we knew we had to feature him in an episode. He sang us an original song and told us some stories about his life. Next, we took the audio back to the lab and Green made a beat mixing Country’s voice with some piano. After that we took the beat to Pacewon in East Orange and he spit us a verse right on the street. Finally Green got his boy Skrewtape to lay down the final verse in a recording studio. Download “Tent City (Live From The Streets)” here.

Mr. Green feat. Malik B (of The Roots) & Kevin Brown – Live From The Streets [Video]

Live from the Streets is a video series created by beatmaker Mr. Green and director Sam Lipman-Stern. The series is based around showcasing street musicians and turning their performances into hip hop beats. For this episode we went to Rittenhouse Square in Philly where we bumped into Kevin Brown. Kevin is a veteran street performer that has earned his stripes traveling across the country via freight train. He played us an original song and then told us a couple stories from the road. After that we went back to the lab and made a beat out of a piece of Kevin’s song. Finally, we got Malik B from the Roots to spit a verse on the beat. This is a special song because it’s the first time Malik B has ever been in a solo music video.
