Johaz feat. Blu, G Rocka, Sene & Theory – Anything [Audio]

Together, Johaz and Exile have created some great tunes under the Dag Savage moniker, and though this new tune doesn’t fall under the same name, it has produced something equally as consistent and smooth. “Anything” is the first single from Johaz’s upcoming Volition mixtape, which will be released via Exile’s Dirty Science label. The song follows four rappers (G Rocka, Theory Hazit and Blu appear alongside Johaz) trying to court their individual ladies while making sure the women know if they need anything in the world, he’s got them covered. Outside of Johaz, Blu has to be the most enticing person to spit on Exile’s fluttering, soothing production. Blu and Exile have made some of the best tunes rap has seen over the last 10 years, and Blu delivers one of his most energetic verses in a while on “Anything.” Johaz’s Volition is set to drop at the beginning of 2016, but right now, this new tune is “Anything” we’ve ever wanted. Listen below. via 2DBZ

Rhythm Roulette w/ Exile [Video]

Rhythm Roulette is back with four brand new episodes live from The Sprite Corner in New York City. Mannie Fresh, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Exile, and Just Blaze treated fans to an exclusive experience, inviting them to watch as they took our Rhythm Roulette challenge live, followed by an in-depth Q&A session hosted by Young Guru. This time around, Exile joins us to play a game of Rhythm Roulette. Exile’s ability to manipulate and finely chop sounds into soulful and melodic beats are what sets him apart from most. From doing work with Mass Appeal Records’ Fashawn, to crafting airy choir-like joints for Mobb Deep, Exile’s music speaks for itself. After making his way through three randomly selected records, Exile flipped one of the records in three different ways, showing how versatile his beats can get. He even managed to sample Fashawn and include his vocals on one of the tracks. Stay tuned for more episodes of Rhythm Roulette from The Sprite Corner, featuring Georgia Anne Muldrow and Just Blaze. In the meantime, hit the video player up top to watch Exile get busy on the production.

Mello Music Group – Persona [Album]

If the soul of hip-hop belongs to the culture, the skeleton belongs to the independent label. From Sugar Hill to Def Jam, Tommy Boy to Rawkus, Fondle Em to Def Jux, the genre’s best music has been birthed by imprints that brazenly defy the status quo, those who champion fearless artists and always prize quality over commerce. For the last eight years, Mello Music Group has lived by that ethos. If you’re reading these words, you’re inevitably well aware of its ascendance and growing legacy. But more importantly, you know the artists—those singular voices channeling the spirits of the past and spitting premonitions of the future. Boom-bap at its best: evolving and expanding the art form, capturing stories of the struggle, upholding the tradition, and keeping the crooked honest. Persona unveils the murderer’s row that is the Mello roster of 2015. Oddisee, Apollo Brown, yU, L’Orange, Red Pill, Open Mike Eagle, Rapper Big Pooh, Quelle Chris. The stars of the present teamed with timeless innovators like Phonte (Little Brother), Blockhead, Ras Kass, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), Oh No, Masta Ace, and Bilal Salaam. The result is something that binds current greats with the pioneers who paved the asphalt. It’s both a historical moment and hard as hell. If most compilations are nothing more than a loosely thrown together collection of songs, Persona boasts meticulous focus. These aren’t spare tracks, they’re potent messages and poisonous darts. “Requiem” finds Phonte and Oddisee indicting American racism and Xenophobia with fury and precision. On

Here’s an end of the year reminder of why he should be on you radar: Late Show, produced by Exile, starring Open Mike Eagle (side note, this will appear on the annual Mello Music Group compilation out in early 2015).

Fashawn Talks Working With Exile On “The Ecology” [Video]

West Coast rapper Fashawn opens up about his sophomore project, “The Ecology,” which has features from Nas and Aloe Blacc. He also explains why he’s working with producer Exile again, and says that he tailors his style a certain way and doesn’t like to stray away from his current sound. The conversation then turns to hip-hop originally being one rapper working with one producer, using Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre as an example, and Fashawn thinks the combination is a great idea. He adds that once you find a producer that really knows your style, it’s a perfect fit, which is how he would describe his relationship with Exile.

Dag Savage (Exile & Johaz) On Out Da Box Radio [Stream]

This week Out Da Box Radio is happy to bring you our latest interview featuring California Artists’ “Exile and Johaz”. Together they are better known as “Dag Savage”. The two recently released their debut collabo LP entitled “E&J” following the success of their “Dag Savage EP” and recent “Warning” Mixtape. We got the chance to talk with Ex and Jo on a number of topics, beginning with their individual history and how they eventually came together to form the name “Dag Savage”. In light of the ir new album, Exile took some time to reflect on the success of his previous collabo LPs with Emcee’s like Blu and Fashawn, and identified the common defining moment that has made everyone of his collabo albums something special to him. Johaz later took a moment to reflect on being around during the time Blu was recording “Below The Heavens” and what it meant to witness the classic album in the making. In a turn of topics, we also got Johaz to speak in detail about the struggles of his upbringing and how overcoming the obstacles have helped him to be the man we also know as an artist today. His story definitely gets deep and can be best introduced in the Dag Savage track entitled “Old Time’s Sake”.
