Wally Clark & Evan Blocker – Cocaine Dreams [Album Stream]

Wally Clark and Evan Blocker have linked up for a new collaborative project called “Cocaine Dreams”.

This album is special because it finds Nashville native Wally Clark, traveling back home to work with another fellow Nashvillian Evan Blocker. “The hip hop scene in Nashville is still trying to figure itself out,” Clark says. You have the New York lyrical influence, combined with the bounce and the trap beats coming from Atlanta. Since Nashville is in between, a lot of the artists are struggling to mix the two, by either rapping triple time over boom bap, or trying to use soul samples to make trap beats and rap introspectively over them. Evan and I wanted to get our version of the Nashville sound down.” The result is hard hitting beats, with some 808s for good measure, as Clark provides clever punchlines as he laments about the exhaustion and toll it takes being a drug dealer. The rhymes don’t glorify the lifestyle, they show someone who is tired, but doesn’t know what else to do. The sentiment parallels Wally’s experience in hip hop. “Shit I would’ve or should’ve quit a long time ago, but what the hell else am I gonna do?”
