Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine Discuss Making Of “2001” On The LP’s 20th Anniversary [Video]

Today (November 16) marks the 20th anniversary of Dr. Dre’s classic album “2001” which redefined the presence of West Coast Hip-Hop in the world.

Seven years after his blockbuster solo debut “The Chronic” permanently altered the state of the music industry and redefined the sound of west coast rap, Dr. Dre still had a chip on his shoulder. The former N.W.A. kingpin channeled that determination into the long-gestating follow-up “2001”, which brought back previous collaborators like Snoop Dogg alongside his latest protégé, Eminem. The album was an immense success, anchored by now classic singles “Still D.R.E.”, “Forgot About Dre”, and “The Next Episode”. To mark the 20th anniversary of its release, Dre and music mogul Jimmy Iovine reminisce about the album’s creation and its legacy.
