John Reilly feat. Rich Quick – Bully Pulpit [Audio]

Aside from the release of Deep Space Soul in 2012 as a part of The Day Laborers, John Reilly has kept relatively quiet on the music tip. While most fans expect (and demand) to hear music on a consistent basis, many fail to acknowledge that their favorite artists are human, and have to deal with personal issues on a daily basis. For John, he’s had to bear the weight of everything from death of loved ones, to fatherhood—while at the same time balancing time to focus on his main passion: creating relatable music for the masses. In November of 2015, the Long Island emcee announced the title of his new EP, “Standing in the Face of Time”, set to be produced entirely by Chicago-based producer Rediculus, bringing back the essence of a one-emcee, one-producer album—a rare commodity not seen in rap these days. This approach is a tried-and-true method which has proved effective since the golden age of Hip-Hop, lending a unique, overall cohesiveness to the project, while also showcasing the chemistry between the two artists—something that is seldom experienced on an album with multiple producers. With the release of his new EP fast approaching, John follows up the EP’s lead single, “Do That Shit” with the equally dope “Bully Pulpit” featuring New Jersey’s Rich Quick. Over Rediculus’ overtly funky production, John and Rich each spit boisterously from a place of authority about the pleasantries they experience while intimidating and berating kids on the school ground, with hilarious lines like

Alpha Faktion – Creative Control [Video]

New York rap trio Alpha Faktion proudly showcase the five elements of Hip-Hop in their new video for “Creative Control”, the Nottz-produced lead single off their upcoming album of the same title. It’s only fitting that rapper/producer Azwun, rapper Kraze, and DJ Enyoutee embrace the foundation of their chosen genre, given that the track itself is a celebration of being independent and taking control of your art. That art, of course, is Hip-Hop as we know it, and the visuals drive home that point by deftly demonstrating each and every element of the culture. From b-boying to deejaying (by Enyoutee), it’s all on display here as Azwun and Kraze spit their verses over Nottz’s crushing instrumental. Backed by his blend of heavy drums and pianos, the two outline exactly why they backed away from dealing with major labels (including the fact that one couldn’t even spell their name collectively). And it’s all beautifully captured by the team at Phanatiks Entertainment, an independently owned media company that’s worked on everything from music videos to public service announcements. Alpha Faktion’s “Creative Control” is due out later this year via East Rock Entertainmen… Stay tuned!
