Phonte Speaks On “Black Dynamite”, #NoFreeMeals, Family & More [Video]

Full disclosure here, Phonte has long been one of my favorite artists alive. Moreover, he remains one of the most respected artists in all of music. From his days as a part of the highly influential Little Brother, crafting music with The Foreign Exchange, his excellent work as a solo artist, and even as his hilarious R&B alter ego Percy Miracles, Tigallo has always been on one. As one of the most talented artists in the world but as down to Earth as they come, Phonte takes pride in being a Joe Everyman artist. He doesn’t exactly seek as much attention as he deserves, so it’s rare when he decides to sit-down for a chat. This isn’t exactly an interview, more than it is two guys just shooting the breeze. Much like how Phonte met his FE partner Nicolay on OkayPlayer forums, I met Phonte on Twitter. We’ve “known” each other for years, but this video you are watching is our first time ever meeting. This almost serves as a social experiment, because if you stick around towards the end of the video we are joined by two special guests in DJ Premier and Royce Da 5’9″ of PRhyme. Prior to that though, Phonte speaks about balancing family life and music life in his latter years as an artist. Phonte also speaks on his work on the Adult Swim show, Black Dynamite. He also dissects the #NoFreeMeals movement and avoiding professional daters. Check out part one of this interview up top.
