Vic Spencer starts September off with his Red Button Series, a weekly release of records during the recording of his 6th solo album, The Rapping Bastard. Vic Spencer was at The Grindhouse with Doc da Mindbenda writing to a new beat for The Rapping Bastard when 197/Village member Monster Mike was recording a record of his own. Vic took a liking to the record he was recording and invited Mike back to the studio the following week to feature on the 1st release to the series which is The Newport 100. The name comes from the historical vehicle sport, The Daytona 500. But since these two MC enjoy smoking Newports, they replaced Daytona with a sport of their own. Packed with 24 bars from each MC on a horn-driven loop provided by Marc Moulin off the Placebo Sessions from 1971-74, the two mesh well crafting lines like ‘I’m very gifted, not a Christian so my daddy is Christmas’ and ‘Never naked, gotta lot of Nudies’. And if that wasn’t enough, Vic loops a bass-driven record from Jet Age of Tomorrow entitled Delta off their bonus mixtape, The Jellyfish Mentality to add to the record. “I want to give listeners MORE”, Vic said about switching the beat on the record. “In this game, you have to stay creative”.
