yU – Never Burning Out [Stream x Download]

This song will be featured on an upcoming EP from Drew Dave called “Sumthin Slight”. Perspectively speaking.. What if I could get close enough to exchange in conversation with the brightest, most seasoned & experienced “star” in our realm, the Sun(or Amen-Ra), who in convo, would tell of some of the things its seen throughout the many trips around this universe. And after comparing, both the sun & I, realize that “the main thing we have in common, in our heart there’s a fire, never burning out”. *I dedicate this song to my father, Michael Willingham Sr., who just passed on Fathers Day. The song kinda reminds me of how he’d break things down to me. Of how he didn’t exactly understand my world, being 18 years older than I, but by principle, we still found things that we could relate on. As people, we all are different, but still very similar when u get to the root of things. -yU Never Burning Out by yU (The 1978ers/Diamond District)

Allen Poe feat. yU – Prescience [Stream]

Last track dropping ahead of Next Tuesday’s release of Pocket Full Of Ohms. Wanted to take time to speak on how hip hop has been beneficial to me in increasing my awareness of the word around me, taught me lessons for how to handle adversity and develop an awareness for what is genuine and what is illusion. Shout out to yU for blessing the 2nd verse and the homie Lofidel on the beat.

Substantial feat. yU – Movin’ Alright [Audio x Download]

Earlier this year, Substantial showed the world that “Home Is Where The Art Is” and for this particular MC the art is deep in PG County, Maryland. The Mello Music Group LP was a breath of fresh air in a stale climate. Not one to rest on his laurels, Substantial has been hitting the road in support of “HIWTAI” with his MMG and DMV brethren yU. The run is nearing its end with pivotal stops in Brooklyn and Baltimore coming up this weekend. In celebration of the live demonstration, and as a sneak peek of what you can expect from the two fierce rhymers, Substantial is leaking, “Movin’ Alright”. A bonus cut from the HIWTAI sessions, this Oddisee-produced, high-energy banger features Sub’s current road dog, yU. Movin Alright feat. yU (prod. Def Dee feat. yU & Hassaan Mackey – Numb Again [Audio x Download]

Space needle producer Def Dee is easy to catch pushin’ the lac, blowin’ trees, and bumpin’ something fresh. He’s like most young 20-somethings. The difference is, that what Dee’s pushin’ out the speakers is usually his own concoction. When Dee signed a producer development deal with MMG last year, there was no rush, just a desire to hear what the promising beatsmith could do with a little time, some access, and an outlet. Today, Def Dee is excited to share Numb Again (feat. yU & Hassaan Mackey) the first track off of his upcoming spring release, 33 an’a third. The album is a remix compilation with a twist. Dee took unreleased verses from his MMG brethren, along with some classic verses, and started remixing. Then he called in the spittas to fill in the blanks with entirely new bars. The results speak for themselves. Numb Again features an unreleased yU verse that was originally for his group The 1978ers. After Dee remixed it, he called up the gravel voiced Rochester MC Hassaan Mackey to lay an all new verse down. The result: numb. Numb Again (feat. yU & Hassaan Mackey) by Def Dee

yU feat. Danedra Rowell – Dreams [Audio x Download]

The A-side of the next installment in Mello Music Group’s 7” Series comes from Diamond District/1978er producer/emcee yU. The gruff DMV MC is known for philosophical street rap but “Dreams” takes a different route – the result a hauntingly beautiful track likely to end up on repeat. Enlisting Danedra Rowell on vocals, yU eschews the new age boom-bap that got him noticed for something closer to all of our heartstrings. Featuring no rapped bars, “Dreams” is a bittersweet ballad that is less literal than emotive. It captures that late-night, pensive feeling us music heads are very familiar with. yU is able to craft a sound that is universal and hyper-local, breaking new ground for himself musically. The drums sound like they could be on any Diamond District-related project but the melody and chords don’t sound too far from something that could find its way onto radio. Peeling back yet another layer of sound from his extensive pallet, yU is proving his versatility as a musician. “Dreams” along with the b-side “Prior Days” officially comes out on limited edition (300 copies only) vinyl 7” this Tuesday – though it is shipping early from MMG now! yU – Dreams (feat. Danedra Rowell) by yU

yU – I Believe (Oddisee Remix) [Audio x Download]

After commanding attention on Diamond District’s In The Ruff and his own Before Taxes project, last year’s The Earn continued cementing yU the 78er as a substantive and skilled lyricist with something to say. Recently, his DMV brethren Oddissee remixed “I Believe”, one of the standout cuts from “The Earn“. Mello Music Group is proud to share the results with you. I Believe (Oddisee Remix) by yU

The Black Opera – Black Superstar (Prod. By yU) [Audio x Download]

The Black Superstar has always been a paradox in American Culture. African-Americans, and many racialized ‘others’, have for a long time held this odd allure as naturally cool, while at the same time suffering the effects of a body that is instantly criminalized. This is a dangerous duality that can serve as simultaneous impetus and hindrance. This polarization drives an ill collaboration between yU and the mysterious outfit known as The Black Opera, hosted by Mello Music Group. Black Superstar (prod. yU) by The Black Opera
