Shabaam Sahdeeq – Modern Artillery [EP Stream]

Brooklyn rap veteran, Shabaam Sahdeeq, is pleased to present his latest work, ‘Modern Artillery’; seven track’s worth of straight-up Hip-Hop from a cat who’s perpetually making waves in the underground. That goes for when he was running with Rawkus’ finest, dropping gems as part of Polyrhythm Addicts, and putting out critically acclaimed solo records like last year’s, ‘Keepers of the Lost Art.’ On ‘Modern Artillery,’ Sahdeeq further cements his place in rap’s history with some Boom bap help from the gifted Amsterdam-based beatsmith, Big Ape, with cuts courtesy of Sweden’s, DJ Devastate. And a large portion of the project was recorded out in Amsterdam while the rapper was touring Europe in 2012, which also inspired the project’s name. “I realized I was using my art as a weapon,” he said. “Peep the hidden message in the title: Modern ART-ill-ery.” The EP also boasts the likes of Outerspace, Ruste Juxx, Reef the Lost Cauze, Torae, 8thw1, and the late, PH (PumpkinHead). Those last three actually show up on the closing track, “Men of Respect,” an ill posse cut that concludes the project with a commemorative feel. The release represents a collaboration with Dutch/Swedish label Elite Fleet Records, and it’s actually their debut project. ‘Modern Artillery’ is now available through all major digital retailers, and a limited-edition tape version drops Oct. 17 on Cassette Store Day. A vinyl edition is in the works…stay tuned!

Shabaam Sahdeeq feat. PH, Torae & 8thW1 – Men Of Respect [Audio]

After laying down his career goals with “Get It,” Shabaam Sahdeeq enlists three Tri-state bruisers for new single “Men of Respect.” It features Jersey City’s 8thw1 along with Sahdeeq’s fellow Brooklynites Torae and the late PH (aka Pumpkinhead) who tragically passed away earlier this year. “Men of Respect” closes out Sahdeeq’s soon-coming EP, Modern Artillery, and it does so with a celebratory air. That’s partly due to the heat supplied by Big Ape, whose sample-flipping instrumental blends perfectly with DJ Devastate’s scratch-laden hook. Their backdrop makes for a slick complement to the four MCs on the track, each adding their own artistry and batch of charisma. They swap bars about the finer points of fashion, embarrassing their contemporaries, and finding inspiration in seeing Obama in the White House. Its sound may be upbeat, but “Men of Respect” is also a sobering reminder of just how much hip-hop misses PH. That being said, his fans, family, and friends can at least find solace in his work on here and within his rich catalogue. ‘Modern Artillery’ hits all major digital retailers on Oct. 13 via Elite Fleet Records. Limited cassette copies will be available on Oct. 17 (aka Cassette Store Day) while a vinyl pressing is scheduled for the near future.

Shabaam Sahdeeq – Get It [Audio]

Brooklyn rap stalwart Shabaam Sahdeeq’s impressive, two-decade-long run of releases continues to grow stronger with certified slapper “Get It,” the lead single off his new ‘Modern Artillery’ EP. You’d think spending 20 years in the game would tire an MC out, right? Absolutely not, and Sahdeeq proves that as he bullies his way through a playful beat from the Amsterdam-based producer, Big Ape. He weaves together bright bursts of bells and chopped-up guitars into a boom-bap instrumental primed for his rapping collaborator, who’s getting his by any means necessary. Amid braggadocio and sharp bits of personal advice for anyone listening, Sahdeeq delivers a raw mission statement on what you can expect from his upcoming project: “Want that pure-pure? S-Dub’s supplyin’ it/ So when you hear that bullshit, you ain’t even buyin’ it.” The ‘Modern Artillery’ EP is due out Oct. 13 via Dutch/Swedish label Elite Fleet Records. Four days later, tape heads can pick up a copy for their decks as part of Cassette Store Day.

Shabaam Sahdeeq – Keepers Of The Lost Art [Video]

Bearing The Gospel of Hip Hop by KRS One, “Keepers of the Lost Art” follows Brooklyn spitter Shabaam Sahdeeq as he seeks to educate the younger generation on the elements of the culture, all while getting busy over an infectious instrumental, courtesy of Res Nullious. As rap’s answer to Indiana Jones, S-Dub travels through the plains of Egypt, to the ocean’s depths, all while the illustrations of the young B-Girl and B-Boys featured on the album cover of the same name come to life to join his adventure. The video also plants a snippet of El Gant’s soon to be released visuals for “Bases Loaded,” featuring Infinity Gauntlet, of which Sahdeeq is a member of.
