Marco Polo – Storm Comin [Audio]

Fat Beats Records is proud to present the sixth installment of “Baker’s Dozen“, an exclusive vinyl series that shines a light on the best minds of instrumental hip-hop, ambient, and electronic music. Each installment gives one artist carte blanche to capture their signature sound. “Baker’s Dozen” heads back to the East Coast where veteran producer Marco Polo brings a welcomed boom bap flavor to the series. New York City is the birthplace of Fat Beats (and as many would say, hip-hop in general) and current NYC resident Marco Polo is true to form in representing our roots. As always, every volume of BDZ features one artist and twelve tracks (with limited random copies including the Baker’s Dozen bonus track on a flexidisc) and comes equipped with a 5×7” postcard insert that features a photo of the artist’s workspace along with the equipment used in their music making process. A personal narrative of how they got into beat making in the first place is featured on the back of the jacket. Visually cohesive and packaged with the utmost attention to detail, Baker’s Dozen is a series that speaks up for artists whose craft renders voices superfluous, and whose instrumentals alone suffice to make a statement. “Another nerdy thing I dig about these versions is most of them are the OG raw MPC versions before they got all mixed down and separated. My fellow producers can relate to the agonizing process of “chasing the demo sound” in the final mix…we wanted to

The most recent episode (video below) includes Green in Atlanta, sampling sounds from basketball courts and barbecues, only to turn it into an instrumental for artist Nick Grant to rap over. A-F-R-O is preparing to release his first official project, an EP with producer Marco Polo called A-F-R-O Polo.

The Drum Broker Presents: Behind The Beats w/ Marco Polo [Video]

Within the past decade or so, Toronto, Canada has proven to be a special breeding ground for a, well, special breed of both the emcee and producer type. Putting aside the obvious circle of T-Dot “celebrities” that includes Drake, the OVO camp and The Weeknd, the capital of Ontario has given us incredible talent such as K’naan, k-os, Kardinal Offishall, Classified and one of the hardest working producers East of the Mississippi, Marco Polo. Marco, known for his early boom-bap work with the late Pumpkinhead has gone on to stack up production credits for the likes of Block McCloud, Masta Ace, Supernatural, Skyzoo, Pharoahe Monch, Your Old Droog, Rah Digga and more. The list is near endless. Recently, Alkota (of The Drum Broker) sat down with the authority of the MPC to discuss his come up in the game, the increasing contrast in technology since stepping in the arena, what’s in store for him in the future and more. It’s a lengthy feature, clocking in at almost 20 minutes, but for the up-and-coming beatmaker/producer, it’s loaded with lots of information and small trade secrets that you simply cannot pass up. Be sure to check out Marco’s freelease “Gifted” as well as his production on Saga’s “Tell Me.” via 2DBZ
