Jermaine Dupri: “Labels Are Lazier Than In The 90s” [Video]

So So Def boss Jermaine Dupri say down with VladTV to discuss how the music industry has changed from the early 90s to today. Surprisingly, Dupri feels the industry hasn’t changed much, or at least his approach to the industry hasn’t. Ultimately he feels that record labels aren’t doing the same amount of work that they used to for their artists, while he still pushes his up-and-coming talents the same way he did with Kriss Kross in 1992. Dupri feels that executive that are on his level often reach a point where they want the same results while doing less work. He also feels that there is a disconnect between the people who run the music biz and those who make the actual music. Check our Dupri’s take on the industry above.

Royce Rizzy (formerly Rolls Royce Rizzy, but he’s not gonna “take your head off” if you call him the latter) is Jermaine Dupri’s most recent signee to So So Def, and the two rappers came through the HNHH office to talk a bit about how they linked up. Jermaine starts things off by talking about the history of So So Def, and the rare ability he had to get the whole roster together for an anniversary show. Later on, he spoke of coming across Royce’s song “Gah Damn” when searching for the Nae Nae dance, and how he heard portions of his own style in the young rapper’s delivery.
