Gensu Dean feat. Olivier Daysoul – Wantchu [Audio x Download]

Gensu Dean, the SP-1200 assassin, is at it again with a new 45 for vinyl heads that pairs the ultimate fast flow track “Ramesses feat. 7evenThirty & Homeboy Sandman”, with a brand new joint titled “Wantchu” featuring the UK-based songbird Olivier Daysoul. “Wantchu” is not what you would expect from a producer touted for bringing that grimy flavor of 90’s rap back. Instead, Dean proves he can smooth things out just as quickly as he can make them rugged. The Imperial blesses Olivier Daysoul with a silky smooth canvas with just enough head-nod flavor to tie it all together. On his end, Mr. Daysoul lays a thick, syrupy ode to the conflicting feelings of infatuation. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself listening to this one on loop for a while. Strictly for the collectors, this 45 will go as quickly as it came. Gensu Dean – "Wantchu feat. Olivier Daysoul" by Gensu Dean Previously: Gensu Dean – Lo-Fi Finghaz [Instrumentals]

Gensu Dean – Lo-Fi Finghaz [Instrumentals]

Armed with a dusty SP-1200 and equally weathered records, Gensu Dean made a splash in the indie rap scene with his debut LP Lo-Fi Fingahz on Mello Music Group. The record was an uncompromising modern display of tradition—hardcore MC’s over hardcore beats, plain and simple. The project was a proud beacon for the old guard, a proclamation that hip-hop can grow but the roots will always be the foundation. Now Gensu and MMG are dropping the instrumentals. Devoid of the MC’s that originally blessed the project, the instrumental version of Lo-Fi Fingahz tells the same story with a different strategy. Classic boom-bap is still at the forefront, but without bars over the beats the listener is left to dive further into the sonic structure of the tracks. The LP takes on more of a contemplative tone and the intricacies in The Grand Imperial’s production can stand out without distraction. You can notice just how hypnotic a quarter-bar guitar loop can be on “Block Prenup” or zone out to the eerie piano on “There You Have It.” At times a chop may bring to mind Premo or Marley Marl or a loop may be a reminder of the legacy of Extra P, Gensu Dean makes it crystal clear as to what class of hip-hop he belongs in. Gensu Dean is as sharp as his namesake. Lo-Fi Fingahz Instrumentals by Gensu Dean Previously: Gensu Dean feat. Brand Nubian – In My Head [Audio x Download]

Hip-hop educates, though recently, it hasn’t been quite as cool to kick knowledge as it used to be. “In My Head” is a bright throwback to substantive knowledge. And who better to come with actual facts than the Gods from Brand Nubian? Over a swirling key riff and a pounding piano sample, Lord Jamar and Sadat X kick Godbody flow: Refrain from the lard, construct your heaven on earth and, of course, knowledge is infinite. Gensu Dean feat. 7evenThirty & Homeboy Sandman – Ramesses [Audio x Download]

For his newest single, “Ramesses”, Gensu Dean enlists two up-and-coming rhyme kings in their own right, the dexterous Homeboy Sandman and the ferocious 7evenThirty, to compliment his apocalyptic beat. Matching a mean guitar riff with gunshot drums and a wailing vocal sample, Dean provides intense energy, allowing 7evenThirty to wild out and rap about busting through the side of mountains, mummifying opponents and riding on the back of the Sphinx. Homeboy Sandman provides a good counterbalance; rapping with equal lyrical intensity but taking the everyman route, reminding us of when he would drink water to quell hunger and lie about cutting McDonalds out of his diet. Gensu Dean has emerged as one of the most formidable and relevant links between the Golden Era and today. His debut album “Lo-Fi Fingahz” is available on Disc | Vinyl | iTunes. Gensu Dean feat. David Banner – Alice In Wonderland [Audio x Download]

Alice was produced on the famed SP1200 that Dean loves both because of the challenge (10 second sample time) and the sound (rugged and gritty). This time Dean chose a funky blues guitar, a driving back beat, climbing bassline, and solid claps to go along with what sounds like Alice in moaning in climax throughout the track. David Banner tells two stories over the course of 2 verses. In the first verse, Alice is a woman locked up emotionally in a world shaded by past sexual abuse. Like a few, Alice believes her power lies in exploiting her sexuality to control men, opening her legs in exchange for them opening their wallets. Banner acknowledges her beauty “baby you hot like hades”, but then looks beyond the surface and retorts “I know he broke your trust, I know you cried for help, your mother thought you was lying, left you all by yourself, come here and take my hand, don’t want to be your man, just want to help you find your place off in this wonderland.” The second verse starts in with a nod to Outkast’s “Art of Storytellin” this time with Heather Humper hoppin’ in & out of cars sleepin’ with stars. When Banner tries to offer an alternative, Heather replies: “Can’t save me ni&&a cause my soul been dead.” The track then closes with what might be the best line of the track: “Sometimes your dreams don’t come true, because God knew they’d be a nightmare.” Enjoy the
