Freeway – Primates [Video]

When Freeway proclaims “The beast has awoken!” at the outset of his new “Primates” video, you know that it’s about to get live in these visuals. And sure enough, the Philly Freezer takes viewers on a rowdy tour of Amsterdam, and that includes a wild live show and plenty of mobbing in the streets and subways. Capturing it all is director Ed Jansen (Ruste Juxx, Rockness Monsta), who follows the rapper and his crew to visually represent their trip overseas. As mentioned, this included a clearly bonkers performance for an equally energetic audience along with some time in the studio with Big Ape. And it’s really the best representation of “Primates,” because the track itself is overflowing with vigor, from Freeway’s bravado-centric bars to Big Ape’s brassy instrumental. “Primates” is just one half of what the rapper and producer put together, though, as they also recently dropped its B-side, the equally tough “Bombdroppaz.” And the two tracks have been immortalized on limited edition blue-vinyl, via Elite Fleet Records. The indie label has partnered with [website] to give away one copy of the 7-Inch 45, and one custom printed “Primates” T-Shirt (designed by Justin Roach), per day for five days (starting today). Freeway – Primates [Audio]

No stranger to tough talk and lyrical beatdowns, Freeway isn’t mincing words on his latest track, “Primates.” Like his previous drop, “Bombdroppaz,” this joint is another bruising and neck-snapping collaboration with Amsterdam’s Big Ape. The horns and strings-laced slapper emphasizes the best parts about the Philly Freezer and his trademark gruff vocals. Free embraces the energy of Big Ape’s instrumental and goes the f*ck off on his verses filled with varied cadences, clever wordplay, and menacing bravado. Funny enough, the emcee actually addresses those talents in some of his opening rhymes: “When it comes to flows, I’m the rapper with the mostest/ Shut down the party, it don’t matter who the host is.” While Freeway can certainly kick some knowledge with his raps, he can also stand alongside any rapper trying to flex on a track. And that’s exactly what he’s doing on “Primates,” which is all about bully raps spread across a heavy instrumental, with dextrous cuts courtesy of Sweden’s DJ Devastate. “Primates” and its B-side, “Bombdroppaz,” are now available for stream and download through all major digital retailers, via Elite Fleet Records, and drops next Friday on wax, as a limited edition blue 7-inch.

Freeway – Bombdroppaz [Audio]

Freeway’s hustle seemingly knows no bounds. In addition to dropping both a mixtape and album this year so far, the Philly rap king has now connected with Amsterdam-based producer Big Ape for two speaker-punishing bangers, and “Bombdroppaz” is the first he’s sharing with fans. As soon as the beat drops, Big Ape rolls in his guitars-driven backdrop for the Philly Freezer to absolutely decimate. The East Coast rap titan showcases his always-ill delivery and wordplay once again here while backhanding wack rappers across the globe. What’s most impressive, though, is how he bounces around the instrumental and utilizes nearly every flow in the book. The first verse has its gems, but Freeway gets especially loose in the second verse while dropping lines like, “Y’all are not mobsters/ Ain’t no way/ You ain’t Floyd “Money” Mayweather/ Y’all are not boxers/ Crazy thing is your girlfriend wanna box us/ Grab on my pole through the hole in my boxers.” The way he moves from one boast to the next is wild, and it’ll likely leave you running the track back to hear it again—but first wait to play the track to the very end, as Sweden’s Create & DJ Devastate take you out with the fader. “Bombdroppaz,” and its A-side, “Primates,” become available on August 12th for both stream and download as a digital 45 through all major digital retailers, via Elite Fleet Records, and drops the following week on wax, as a limited edition blue 7-inch.
