Erick Sermon On How NYC Emcees Are Holding It Down For Hip-Hop [Video]

According to Erick Sermon, “nobody’s grittier than Sheek Louch,” and “the nicest underrated rapper is Joell Ortiz.” These are just couple of the reasons why he made sure to enlist his fellow New York lyricists on his single “Make Room,” from his anticipated new solo album ‘E.S.P.’ which drops in August. While at the video shoot which went down in the Bronx, the Green-Eyed Bandit conveyed the story of how DJ Desue encouraged him to use the beat for the track. Erick immediately knew it was “hard as hell,” and held an organic New York sentiment. The EPMD frontman then spoke on his thoughts on New York City MCs, saying, “At the end of the day, when it comes down to New York City, there’s nobody to represent New York City [other] than these MCs, and this is our city. They got to stop fronting on us. They got to stop fronting on us making records how we want to make them.” He continues to challenge his contemporary and emerging rappers, saying, “So what, we want to rhyme. What’s bad about us wanting to emcee, and have some drums on our sh*t; what’s wrong with that? What’s wrong with the Hip-Hop? That’s why I came, and that’s why I called them for that, because I wanted to show them n****s like, ‘Yo, New York is here and we ain’t playing.” After showing respect to A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, Troy Ave, Action Bronson, and Flatbush Zombies, the “Music” MC contends that

Erick Sermon On Ice Cube Revealing To Him He Was Leaving N.W.A. [Video]

The Green-Eyed Bandit Erick Sermon heightened his impact on Hip-Hop as one half of the legendary group EPMD, and recently the Long Island native stopped by VladTV to discuss how EPMD’s early success impacted his life as an MC and as a man, people mistaking the group’s sound for being from California, and how Ice Cube first told EPMD that he planned to leave N.W.A. When commenting about the group’s debut ‘Strictly Business’ earning a spot on the Billboard 200, Erick explains, “It was a phenomenon…If my group didn’t break up, there’s no telling where we would have been, ’cause we was out of control.” While traveling down memory lane, he refers to other artists like Das EFX, Redman, and K-Solo, who themselves earned acclaim from the lane that EPMD helped to pave. The “Symphony” spitter then says, “I remember one time that I looked at the Billboard and it had all four of us on the charts at the same time,” adding, “That was something unbelievable at the time.” As the convo then covers other accomplishments, Erick talks about how the funky sound of EPMD led some listeners to believe that the Brentwood, Long Island residents were actually from Brentwood, California. Soon, the discussion turns to another iconic Hip-Hop group, N.W.A., and Sermon reveals that while Ice Cube was on tour with EPMD, the “Straight Outta Compton” MC told them of his plans to leave N.W.A.

Erick Sermon Touches On Home Invasion And Formation Of Hit Squad [Video]

EPMD member Erick Sermon is ready to put the home invasion situation to rest. Erick and Parrish may have been making dollars together, but like Sermon says, “at the end of the day, you think somebody is doing you wrong.” Dismissing the situation to being young and “money not matching up to success,” Sermon states the only accurate part in the “Beef II” DVD was him relocating to Atlanta. Erick Sermon: “Today’s Rappers Are Too Sensitive” [Video]

EPMD spitter Erick Sermon recalled the beef he had with Rakim back in the day during a recent chat with VladTV, and also spoke on the manner in which today’s rapper’s go at each other. The Long Island native explained that the beef ignited after Rakim rapped about EPMD “getting a smack,” so Sermon fired back on the group’s hit track “You’re a Customer.” While the beef remained strictly lyrical, Sermon says it began to get out of hand, so he and Rakim squashed it in the early ’90s. Moving on to how rappers beef today, Sermon believes they resort to violence and antics like YouTube videos because they don’t possess the lyrical skill necessary to retaliate using words. Check out what else Sermon had to say up top.
