Sway Remembers Tupac Shakur 20 Years After His Death [Video]

Shade 45 host Sway Calloway remembers the last interview he did with his friend Tupac Shakur a few months before his death. Sneaking onto the set of Tupac’s video “How Do You Want It”, Sway made his way past droves of press and “big-ass, hulkish-sized” security guards. Ducking and running military-style in an effort to remain unseen, Sway eventually made his way to Tupac’s trailer for the interview. As Sway knocked on the door, he could hear Tupac holding court. Inside, the rapper’s captive audience included R&B artist Jon B. playing some instrumentals for him; the lead singers of Jodeci, K-Ci and JoJo, just hanging out; and of course, some attractive women. On the 20-year anniversary of his death, Sway reflects on discovering Tupac’s genius as a freestyler on the Bay Area-circuit, following him through his ascent to stardom and that final interview.

DJ Crack-T – Just Cruisin (Westcoast Classics Mix) [Audio x Download]

“Last night I was diggin through my records and played a few tunes from my vinyls. I ended up doing a little mix with mostly “West Coast Classics”. Don´t front since you will hear a few huge hits like “Next Episode” or “Regulate” or “2 Of Americaz Most Wanted” in this mix – I still consider them not overplayed and all-time favs. BTW does anyone remember Domino´s “Ghetto Jam”? This used to be a smash im 1993. Snoop´s “Doggystyle” is still one of my favorite albums of all time! I also sneaked in music by The Geto Boys, Shaq or Biggie… but still very related to typical West Coast 90s Hip Hop. This one is mixed with original vinyls as well as Serato since I love to use loops for certain mix routines. Enjoy!” @Crack-T

Checl Out The First Trailer For The 2Pac Biopic, “All Eyez On Me” [Video]

Tupac Amaru Shakur would have celebrated his 45th birthday today (June 16th), had it not been for that fateful and tragic night of September 13th, 1996. His legacy, however, has cemented him as one of the greatest rappers of all time. A film based on his life, All Eyez On Me, recently wrapped shooting and currently in post-production, however, and the first teaser trailer for it has finally been released. Produced by Morgan Creek Productions and directed by Benny Boom, the film stars Danai Gurira, Kat Graham, Jamal Woolard (who played The Notorious B.I.G in his respective biopic, Notorious), and first-time actor Demetrius Shipp Jr. who bears a startlingly uncanny resemblance to ‘Pac (as can be seen in the 60-second teaser). While it only shows bits and pieces of the film, it shows brief glimpses of his childhood, his Death Row days, and more. via 2DBZ

2Pac feat. Yo-Yo – Dear Mama (Original Version) [Audio x Download]

DJ King Assassin unleashes the OG version of 2Pac’s classic “Dear Mama”. “The original version of ‘Dear Mama’ was far different than the version that was released, as far as the hook was constructed,” DJ King Assassin explained. “Originally, the hook was a sample of a song from the legendary rapper and friend of both of ours named Yo-Yo, from Ice Cube’s [Da] Lench Mob. The sample was ‘Wouldn’t be a damn thang without a woman,’ which was taken from the original song from Ice Cube’s ‘This Is A Man’s World,’ with the scratching done, of course, by yours truly DJ King Assassin. The day after we had finished up on everything we were in Echo Sound in L.A. when Tupac comes in the studio very upset and proceeds to explain to us that we had to take out Yo-Yo’s part because a person by the name of Pat Charbonet would not give us the clearance to use that part in the song, so we had no choice but to take it out and that’s where even the Richard Pryor excerpt, which you will hear, is completely off the released version of the song.”
