Kid Capri, Scott Storch, DJ Spinderella, Kool DJ Red Alert Honored @ 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards [Video]

Without the contributions of DJs and producers, Hip-Hop would lack its essential foundation.

The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards honored four iconic figures in this realm: Kid Capri, Scott Storch, DJ Spinderella, and Kool DJ Red Alert, celebrating their legendary influence throughout the evening.

On Tuesday evening, October 10, Capri had a remarkable onstage moment as he engaged in an exciting back-and-forth with DJ D-Nice. This dynamic duo seamlessly transitioned between timeless tracks such as Jay-Z’s “PSA”, Luniz and Michael Marshall’s “I Got 5 On It”, 2 Chainz’s “Birthday Song”, Roscoe Dash’s “All The Way Turnt Up”, Ludacris’ “Move Bi**h”, and a variety of others.

The remaining three also received dedicated sets during the night. Scott Storch showcased his piano skills as he elegantly played Joey Crack’s “Lean Back”. Fat Joe, in his performance, gave a special shoutout to DJ Spinderella, describing her as a universal crush, and expressed his appreciation for Kool DJ Red Alert, who was the first DJ to play his demo.

Towards the conclusion of the show, the aforementioned DJs and producers, along with DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Drama, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and more, joined Joe on stage for a final farewell. During this moment, Joe emphasized that Hip-Hop owes its existence to these individuals. You can view the performances from their sets in the video above.

In addition to the recognition of the aforementioned talents, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, both esteemed producers in their own right, were honored with the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award. In his acceptance speech, Timbaland expressed, “I always dreamed I would be on a stage accepting an award about Hip-Hop. Doing music back in Virginia, I never thought I would make it, but now I’m here.”

Timbaland also highlighted the significance of creating Verzuz alongside Swizz Beatz and celebrated the fact that it is a Black-owned initiative. Swizz Beatz, in his speech, dedicated the award to all the producers who started with nothing and turned it into something, as well as to the creative artists. He also extended the dedication to his Ruff Ryders family. You can watch the speech in the video below.
