Kota The Friend – Protea [Album Stream]

Brooklyn’s own Kota The Friend delivers a refreshing dose of summer vibes with his latest album, “Protea”.

With a total of 16 tracks, Kota showcases a captivating fusion of funk, hip-hop, house, and jazz on his new LP. Leading the project are standout tracks like “Hope You Heal” and the recently released “Barcelona“, offering a diverse and kaleidoscopic musical experience.

Included in the album are other notable tracks such as “Keep Me Goin'” and “Nobody”, along with captivating collaborations featuring Aloe Blacc, Braxton Cook, Hello O’Shay, Zak Abel, Samm Henshaw, Jennifair, Allen Stone, Tarriona ‘Tank’ Ball, and Wolftyla.

Describing “Protea”, Kota explains, “It’s like a love letter expressing appreciation and admiration for the person that stood by me in my darkest hour.” He further elaborates, “The protea is my wife’s favorite flower, and I wanted to create a timeless piece of art specifically for her. The artists featured on the album are the ones we listened to frequently during the drives to and from her work. In that way, she played a role in curating the album. I hope this album serves as a reminder to give those who support us their due recognition. We must appreciate the people who love us and uplift us when we are most vulnerable.”

Following his January release of “Lyrics To Go, Vol. 4“, “Protea” marks Kota The Friend’s second project of the year. In April, he also treated fans to the deluxe version of his “To See A Sunset” album, which was produced by Statik Selektah.
