Taylor Bennett On Sway In The Morning [Video]

Your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper has made his or her way up to Sway in the Morning but never have they taken the sacred 5 Fingers of Death and doubled it just for fun. Hailing from Chicago, 20-year-old Taylor Bennett did just that and also premiered a written verse for his brother, Chance The Rapper, over his track “D.R.A.M. Sings Special”. Arriving to the show with confidence, Bennett had been up tweeting about killing the 5 fingers of death after selling out a show at SOB’s the night before. Jumping into his music Bennett speaks on his track “Straight From The Bottom”. Not usually the type to toss out singles he says the track was timely and needed to be heard. Developing a strong worth ethic from his father who has worked for Obama as well as the mayor of Chicago, Bennett says taking a year to perfect his project “Broad Shoulders” was well worth the wait. Placing his brother Chance The Rapper on a song for very first time he dives into his relationship with his older sibling. Drawing parallels from Jay Z and Kanye’s relationship Bennett says that he’s here to do things on his own referencing a line from Ye’s “Big Brother” about selling out a show at SOB’s then having to buy his way into Jay Z’s show at Madison Square Garden. He continues on about Chance as he breaks down how his verse on “Broad Shoulders” foreshadowed Chance being a father to a baby girl. From music and business to real life interaction Bennett opens up about being open everyone no matter their race or orientation. Speaking on losing friends due to being closed minded about homosexuality Bennett hopes things change and that his generation will be the first to whole heartedly except people for who they really are. Taking a few calls from fans Bennett is taken back by one person in particular who speaks on lifting up fathers of color. Breaking down for a minute he gathers himself to talk through seeing too many friends grow up without fathers in their lives. “There is nobody that can tell you like your father tells you to respect women,” he says. Before taking off Bennett steps to the mic again (see his 10 Fingers of Death below) to spit over “D.R.A.M.
