Just Blaze: “Joe Budden’s ‘Pump It Up’ Beat Was For Beanie Sigel” [Video]

While many will agree that “Pump It Up” is Joe Budden’s biggest single, Just Blaze admitted to VladTV that the beat was originally made for Beanie Sigel and Freeway. He explained that Beanie wasn’t feeling it the night he presented it to him, and Just Blaze said it stayed in his catalog for years until he ran it past Joe, who loved it after the first listen. Speaking about other hit beats that weren’t used by the original artists intended, Just Blaze revealed that Ghostface Killah was originally supposed to use Jay Z’s “Girls, Girls Girls.” The famed producer added that it’s not the beat that makes the song hot, and he explained that it’s more about the song that the artist writes to the beat. When asked about Joe Budden not being able to surpass the success of “Pump It Up,” Just Blaze said that if he had to guess about the situation he’d say it had to do with difficulties with Def Jam, which you can hear more about above.
