“I didn’t expect anything,” says Inspectah Deck, about his thoughts on what would become the Wu-Tang Clan’s legacy in Hip-Hop, “I just thought that we were going to come in and make some records, make some money, and you know, that was that. During an impromptu 5 A.M. studio session with Rza, Rollie Fingers dropped the verse which fit perfectly to the the unfinished “Triumph” track. Eventually, “Triumph” would become one of the first million dollar Hip-Hop videos, and it would also solidify Inspectah Deck as a lyrical genius. He asserts, “It’s one of those rhymes that people came to me and gave me that respect like, ‘Yo, you’re one of the f***ing best.’” Following that train of thought “The City,” wordsmith shares, “That record did a lot for me. It changed my Rap life.” He goes onto share after being highlighted in the “Hip-Hop Quoteable” section of the Source magazine, he was able to garner more respect from people who in turned started researching more of his work.
