Iamsu! Says West Coast Music Is “Original Right Now” [Video]

Iamsu! sat down with VladTV to discuss the current successes he’s seen due to his work ethic and musical talents. He began by explaining how he came to work with 2 Chainz which led to him being featured on the rapper’s album. He then announced that he recently signed a distribution deal with ADA, the independent music distribution arm of Warner Music. Iamsu! explained that he didn’t want to sign to an official label deal so as to have more creative control over his album. He also addressed the growing number of artists coming out of the West Coast, and how West Coast music has a unique sound and feel to it that can’t be duplicated. At the time of the interview, the Richmond, CA., emcee was still working on his Sincerely Yours album, and stated that he was about 70 percent done.. He went on to release his new work on May 9th, and it is available for purchase on iTunes. It consists of 15 songs with an extra 4 bonus tracks for fans to enjoy. Rich Homie Quan is one of the 12 Freshmen on XXL’s 2014 Freshmen list revealed last Mon., May 5, on BET’s 106 & Park. All last week we’ve been providing you with a behind-the-scenes look at the selection process, the photo shoot, and the work it takes to pull it all together. DJ A-Trak Speaks On Collabo EP With Cam’ron [Video]

DJ A-Trak sat down with VladTV to discuss everything from reuniting Just Blaze and Dipset to Cam’ron’s skills in the kitchen. A-Trak revealed that he initially wanted to do a song or two with Cam’ron, but upon meeting they had such an undeniable chemistry that they both decided to do an entire EP together. They also brought in Just Blaze to co-produce a track in an effort to bring back that classic Roc-A-Fella, Just Blaze/ Cam’ron feeling, seeing as how the mega-producer and Harlem MC haven’t collaborated in over 10 years. He also revealed some behind-the-scenes info, namely that Cam is a great host, and while recording in his home studio would step out between verses to chef up pork chops, shrimp and other assorted meats.

Rickie Jacobs – Kill Switch [Stream x Download]

Oft imitated but never equaled, the DJBooth Freestyle Series ran from February 2009 through June 2011. Its 250 total entries were the work of a veritable who’s-who of underground and emerging emcees, including rising stars like Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. Now, it’s back for a second round. The 19th entry in the relaunched series comes courtesy of Rickie Jacobs, the DMV buzzmaker who brought us Guy Code and Cartel. On Kill Switch, the unsigned rhymesayer spits introspective bars over a tuneful, piano-driven original beat by Mees Bickle. Good Morning, As I was going through beats during a studio session for my upcoming album, Believing In Forever, I stumbled across an unreleased song called “The Torch Bearer” produced by Confidence. I had completely forgot about this song. This was originally recorded for my 2012 album, Heart Of A King. Confidence is definitely one of the up and coming producers in the game. I felt this previously unreleased gem would do better in the fans’ headphones than in a folder on my labtop.
