TeeFLii Talks Singing & Working With DJ Mustard [Video]

West coast artist TeeFLii spoke with VladTV about his singing abilities, working with DJ Mustard, and the success of his single “This D***.” TeeFLii revealed that while he loved to sing, a friend suggested that he should focus on rapping. “I wanted to always sing,” he said. “He didn’t want me to sing he said ‘I want you to have bars, but I was like ‘I can have bars and sing.” His hit, “This D****” produced by DJ Mustard, has the best of both worlds, with the artist singing the catchy hook. The rapper also talked about the first time he heard his raunchy song on the radio and his relationship with the popular producer.

“Yasiin Gaye: The Return (Side Two)” coming soon! Amerigo Gazaway’s *Soul Mates* series continues the theme of his previous work in creating collaborations that never were. On the series’ latest installment, Amerigo unites Brooklyn rapper Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and soul legend Marvin Gaye for a dream collaboration aptly titled “Yasiin Gaye”. Building the album’s foundation from deconstructed samples of Gaye’s Motown classics, Gazaway re-purposes the instrumentation into new productions within a similar framework. Carefully weaving Bey’s tangled raps and Gaye’s soulful vocals over his new arrangements, the producer delivers a quality much closer to an authentic collaboration than a lukewarm “mashup” album.
