Tree – More Than You Know [Stream x Download]

In the summer for 2012 we thought it would be cool to introduce Thelonious Martin to Tree. They met up at SoundScape, where Thelonious was regularly setting up shop and crafting music. The two kick it off immediately and “More Than You Know” was the result. Although we’ve released a lot of music with Tree and Thelonious respectively, for some reason or another, this just never came out. We want to release it now as a thank you to everyone that’s been listening & supporting us the last few years. Please enjoy, and look forward to great new music throughout 2014.

Chuuwee – JFK [Stream x Download]

Oft imitated but never equaled, the DJBooth Freestyle Series ran from February 2009 through June 2011. Its 250 total entries were the work of a veritable who’s-who of underground and emerging emcees, including rising stars like Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. Now, it’s back for a second round. The ninth entry in the relaunched series comes courtesy of Chuuwee, the Sacramento representative last featured with November’s F**kin’ Great. On JFK, Swoooots‘s ominous keyboard loops set the stage for hard-nosed lyrical flames from the unsigned buzzmaker. Chuuwee’s Amerikkka’s Most Blunted mixtape, a collaboration with Trizz, is slated to drop later this month. In the meantime, fans are encouraged to check out his 2013 projects, The Great GatZby (with Shae Money) and Thrill.

Miguel Talks “Kaleidoscope Dream” Follow-Up [Video]

Miguel set out to alter the direction of R&B with Kaleidoscope Dream. And for the follow-up to his stellar sophomore album, the brilliant singer-songwriter is embracing his roots. The Grammy-Award winning VIBE cover star says he’s early in the process of recording his as-yet-untitled third album, yet he’s pretty deep in. His Los Angeles hometown—and desire to record a definitive summer anthem—has been a strong influence. “I want this album to feel like home for me,” Miguel told VIBE. “Being born and raised in Los Angeles, there’s so much to paint and for people to see and know about me. I want to write the summer anthem. I haven’t had that summer song yet.” Aiming for a release during the warm months, Miguel says he’s digging deeper into his classic rock influences for this LP, citing The Doors and Guns N’ Roses. “It picks up where Kaleidoscope Dream left off,” he says, adding that he’ll pay homage to his Mexican tongue throughout the project. “I’ll be singing in Spanish here and there—you’ll get a little bit of Spanglish,” he says. One of his favorite songs so far is titled “Destinado A Morir (Destined To Die)”; another is the allegorical “Hollywood Dreams.” “The music I create always has this underlying tinge of scandal to it,” Miguel says. While he’s still shaping the foundation of his next LP, Miguel says he’ll looking into collaborations further along. Peep the video for more info on Miguel’s fresh vibes.
