Sey feat. Toson Nosa – Substances [Stream x Download]

It seems like today, Rap is all about the turn up. So much so that we never hear about the turn down or the want/need to turn down. That’s what I realized one weekend after continually binging on a number of things. It felt like I was drowning, but I wasn’t trying to necessarily save myself. That feeling is what I’m trying to convey with this song. The sounds are upbeat and the words seem like fun, but really take a listen to what is going on. The Bay Area’s own, Toson Nosa, chimes in with his own account of what it means to be in that mindstate. AX adds his own thoughts through sampling the Weeknd; an artist who knows this subject too well. Shouts to Doc for mixing/mastering as well. He really helped bring this to life. Thanks for listening.

Rahlou – Pillows [Beat Tape]

Pillows is the debut instrumental album, from Gummy Soul’s newest artist, Rahlou. While awaiting his first born child, the Brooklyn based DJ and producer, created Pillows after a chance encounter with Gummy Soul founder Wally Clark. “I met Rahlou on the street in Atlanta,” says Clark. “He came up to me because of this Carla Thomas record he saw me holding. We hit it off immeadiatly, and a couple days later he called me, because he got a line on a collection his record dealer friend was giving away. When we showed up, this guy had 25 crates on his porch, that he just wanted gone. So we filled a Volvo station wagon up to the brim, and drove with stacks in our laps. And as we started going through the records, I began teaching him about how I made beats to help him transition from the MPC to the digital world.” Pillows is a collection of beats that came from those first sessions, and is a warm introduction, that’s sure to keep you cozy, as the days grow colder. — GS Pillows by Rahlou

A Guy Called Gerald – 70’s & 80’s Funk On Da Chill [Mix]

Dopeness! This is the music I grew up listening to. When I hear some of the reactions from some of my American brothers.. musically they actually thought I was living around the corner from them – which I was, musically. It’s funny, we could have almost communicated the same then as you can online now through music. Brothers if you are reading this – don’t forget it – we still have an open line of communication. Some people think it’s all about the $. – Gerald
