De La Soul Interview w/ OkayPlayer TV [Video]

De La Soul’s performance at Roots Picnic 2012 was definitely one of the highest, brightest highlights of a weekend of highlights. For those of us who grew up on De La and most likely had our concept of hip-hop (and overall mindstate) blown up to buhloone-like proportions, seeing them rock the crowd so perfectly in synch with their musical progeny–and now fellow-pioneers–The Roots was a family reunion of the greatest kind. Even before Yasiin Bey took the stage! The timeless performance came with some extremely timely news as well, because when we sat down in a hotel lobby to build with Plugs Won & Too–still riding high off the sunshine of picnic-love–about the experience, they also let some info about their forthcoming album drop. In fact Pos stated that the next vide would be coming “in a few weeks”–and since Roots Picnic was already a few weeks ago, we can expect some new plug material imminently! Watch above to get the full details and feel what we felt watching this epic happening from the wings.

Joey Bada$$ – Waves (Behind The Scenes) [Video]

“Waves” can be found on Joey’s great “1999” project. If you don’t know, newcomer JOEY BADA$$ is the talk of the town. Hailing from Brooklyn and with only 17 years of life on his resume, it is already being predicted that he will lead a future full of major achievements. His presence could be likened to that of a musical messiah, as he parts the mainstream waves of formulaic hits that brag about the same old things. Having only been born in 1995, this young man manages to ooze a 90’s nostalgia that was once only available by listening to artists who made music during that era. He’s bringing hope to all my jaded music loving elders and showing his generation that there’s more to music than Hublots and YOLO or whatever else people talk about in music these days… Needless to say, I am so stoked to work with an artist like JOEY…especially at this interesting point in his life. What can I tell you about him? Well – he’s super sweet, hilarious and adorable (if you couldn’t see that for yourself already). At first glance, he appears to be like any 17 year old – except for the fact that most teenagers don’t possess a massive talent that has big wigs turning heads and taking notice. I can’t wait to watch the JOEY BADA$$ and PRO ERA CREW takeover. I’ll be front row and center, eating my organic popcorn and holding up supportive sign! Previously: Joey Bada$$ Performs
