Raheem DeVaughn On Top 5 Male Singers And Genius Of R. Kelly [Video]

Basking in the afterglow of the hard-earned success received from the release of his latest LP, ‘Love Sex Passion,’ Raheem DeVaugh made time to speak with VladTV. Within this exclusive clip, the DMV crooner shared his list of whom he considers to be the top five male singers, dead or alive. Since Michael Jackson is the de facto King of Pop, he was excluded from inclusion on the list. After agreeing to the stipulation, Raheem readily named some iconic vocalists including Prince, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, and Bob Marley. DeVaughn was then challenged as to why notable artists like John Lennon and Elton John failed to make the list, and the “I Don’t Care” artist insisted, “I’m a big Beatles fan, but for me it was the songwriting.” He went on to add, “That’s what I appreciated the most when I listened to The Beatles.” A similar reason was given as to why Elton John wasn’t included. Later, when R. Kelly’s name is mentioned, DeVaughn reveals his passionate opinion on the singer, declaring, “R. Kelly is a genius!” While Rah shared his respect for the “12 Play” connoisseur, he also confessed that Kelly’s recent work has him perplexed, saying, “I’m just confused by him, lately.” Finally, when he reflected over his list, Raheem confessed that “these are some of my favorites,” and the “Mo Betta” chanter went on to speak on how each artist draws inspiration from another. Raheem DeVaughn Talks New Album & Finding Loophole To Leave Jive [Video]

Raheem DeVaughn chopped it up about what he’s got in the works during a recent sit-down with VladTV. The D.C. singer began by touching on his newest album, Love Sex Passion, describing it as “some of my best body of work to date.” Commenting on going with indie label eOne Music for his latest project, DeVaughn said it was an easy choice because they made the effort of traveling to D.C. during a snowstorm to check him out. While on the subject of labels, DeVaughn recounted how he was able to break his contract with Jive Records after being signed for over a decade. “I actually found a loophole…I was able to give them an ultimatum, and they weren’t able to meet it…hence I was able to be released from my contract,” he revealed before adding, “I don’t have any regrets being there, it was a great experience.” When asked how he was able to find a loophole, DeVaughn joked that he did what most artists don’t; he actually read the contract. Speaking further, the Grammy-nominated singer said his decision was motivated by the label not being willing to spend the necessary amount of money to promote his career.
