Mya: “I Took Broadway Into Consideration Before My Music Career” [Video]

Mya opened up to VladTV about studying dance at the age of two, but says that she didn’t start taking things seriously until years later. The famed singer adds that her hard work and love for dance led her to be noticed by renowned tap dancer Savion Glover. Mya explains that she was able to close out a show for Savion at the prestigious Kennedy Center in D.C. During the interview, Mya also revealed that while she didn’t see dance as a viable career option, she did take Broadway into consideration.

The D.C. native revealed that she doesn’t have a must-have list when it comes to songwriting, but says that she loves connecting with the other people she’s collaborating with while drinking a bottle of wine. The conversation then turns to her working with Pharrell, and Mya adds that she’s so proud of his current success. She also details working with him while in the studio with Beenie Man, and shares a story about going to festivals with Beenie in Jamaica.

Mya On Keeping Her Love Life Off Social Media [Video]

Mya has had a career filled with wins including chart-topping albums and awards, but when it comes to relationships and children, the beauty isn’t ready to settle down just yet. In an exclusive with VladTV, the 34-year-old says she adores children, but doesn’t have baby fever. “I don’t have any plans for marriage or kids in the future,” she said. “I believe that all things fall into place when it’s suppose to. I have my mind on other things as far as heart set on taking care of certain things, I’m just not there. I love kids, but that’s actually never been a desire of mine yet. When it’s gonna kick in I’m not sure.” She also talks about how rumors affect her dating life, and how she manages to keep her personal life off social media. Check out the full interview above.

Mya: “I Was Picked On As A Kid For Being Mixed” [Video]

Mya shares what it was like growing up in D.C., and explains that it was a wonderful blend of different cultures and ethnicities. She adds that all of her art classes growing up were “very versatile as well as multicultural.” She also opens up about her experiences as a mixed race child going to a predominantly black school. Mya says she was teased a lot by the kids, who called her “jungle fever,” but her parents kept her grounded. She admits it would’ve been difficult for someone who’s not strong enough to take the teasing, but she insists that her foundation was solid enough to get her through the tough times.

Mya Talks Comeback, New Music, Taking Care Of Self & More [Video]

R&B songstress Mya made a surprise comeback this year with the release of two EP projects, February’s ‘With Love’ and April’s ‘Sweet XVI.’ The singer/actress has mostly focused on her overseas fan base over the past 6 years, releasing 2 albums on Japan’s Manhattan Records. Now back on the scene in the States, ThisisRnB TV caught up with the 34-year-old in Los Angeles for a new interview. As lovely and sweet as she’s always been, the soft-spoken artist talked to us about celebrating 16 years in music with the new EP’s, and why she didn’t want to wait any longer to give fans some new music. Mya Addresses 50 Cent Lying About Their Relationship [Video]

Mya sat down with VladTV to address her relationship with 50 Cent, or more accurately, lack of one. She admitted that she refused to interview with ThisIs50.com because Fif implied on a song that they were intimate, a claim she denies. She then spoke on a meeting she had with the now deceased Chris Lighty that was interrupted by “a certain artist.” The singer revealed that this person admitted in front of Lighty and Mya’s father that he lied, but has yet to admit that publicly.
