Saga & Thelonious Martin feat. Fashawn – Yesterday [Audio]

With their highly anticipated collaborative album coming soon, Saga & Thelonious Martin drop their gripping and lyrically rich lead single, “Yesterday,” featuring a compelling guest verse from Fashawn. The track truly exemplifies why so many heads are eager to hear the duo’s album, “Molotov”. Musically, you have Martin showcasing his production wizardry by combining slapping percussion with a crazy sample flip. It’s really yet another example of why the Chicago producer is one of the best doing it right now. And the same goes for Saga, the Brooklyn-based rapper whose career continues to blossom. With that in mind, there’s extra potency to his rhymes on “Yesterday,” a track that dives deep into growth—both as an artist and as a man. Whereas Saga digs into the former with his book-ending verses, Fashawn passionately raps about being a young father who finds truth and power in his role as a parent. It makes for a truly engaging listen, and one that’ll leave you wishing Molotov was dropping tomorrow. “Yesterday” can now be streamed through all major streaming outlets, and is available for download as the first instant grat track off the iTunes pre-order for “Molotov”, which drops February 17 through all major digital retailers via Saga 718/EMPIRE. The album will be released on vinyl early 2nd quarter through Coalmine Records, just in time for the duo’s European tour.

Fashawn On GGN w/ Snoop [Video]

Most of you probably recognize Fashawn from XXL’s 2010 Freshman Cover, but now you have the chance to get to know him on an elevated level as he sits down with Snoop Dogg to talk about music, weed, sex, and more on the newest episode of GGN. Fashawn’s most recent album, The Ecology, came out in February last year, and it is an album you should definitely know about if you don’t already. The album is executive produced by Nas and features artists like Busta Rhymes, Aloe Blacc, BJ the Chicago Kid, Dom Kennedy, The Alchemist, and more. With a roster like that, we aren’t sure what more convincing you would need to listen to it as soon as you finish watching his episode of GGN. The Ecology is out on Nas’s record label, Mass Appeal Records, which Fashawn was signed to after he had essentially decided to quit rapping and music as a whole. There was a point when Fashawn found himself somewhat lost in the rap world, and Nas is pretty much the only reason he decided to continue making music. The Ecology had mass amounts of success in a variety of ways. One of the songs from the album, “Something to Believe In”, which features Nas and Aloe Blacc, is in Madden 16—Snoop knows the song all too well because, according to him, the song comes on every time he is “kicking someone’s ass.” Aside from The Ecology, Fashawn is busy being the co-founder of the Grizzly

Fashawn & The Grizzly City Boys – Grizzly City USA [Free EP]

New project from Fashawn and his crew The Grizzly City Boys, called “Grizzly City USA”. Stream or download the 7-track EP below. “I wanted the world to hear my brothers rap because I think they are some of the most talented people out. They all have different energy and styles and at the end of the day they can hang with anyone in the business so I figured why not do something and let the light shine on them as well. We come from on over looked area and I was fortunate that I was able to put shine back here because brothers like Planet Asia, Evidence, Alchemist, Nas and so on gave me the opportunity to do that. I want to pass that on to them and let them flourish because we are the Mt. Rushmore of rap in our region.” – Fashawn

Run The Jewels – Jewel Runner Tour Mix (Mixed By Trackstar The DJ) [Audio x Download]

“We are a week into tour but better late than never: I present for your enjoyment the Jewel Runner Tour mixtape. I’ve dropped more merch than mixes lately–including my SKRATCH FAN snapback collabo with DJ Q-Bert and the RAPFANxRTJDJ t-shirt–but it all starts with the music, so I had to put something together for the tour. The project features tracks from all four acts, including Boots’ Meow the Jewels remix and RTJ’s late night television performance with TV On The Radio, as well as incredibly dope exclusives from Fashawn and Cuz Lightyear. Mike and El did some light hosting in classic WRTJ fashion, and the artwork was expertly handled by the great Ian Klarer, who also did the tour poster and last year’s tour mix cover, among other things. Stream or download the mix online, but if you’re a collector and want a physical copy you’ll have to come out to one of our tour dates and hit up the merch table, or catch me spinning at an afterparty. RTJ all day…salutes.” – Trackstar The DJ Peep the full tracklist after the break.
