Harlem producer Dollar Bin has been making serious waves these past few years, be it through his high powered singles, innovative Drum Ensemble releases, and collaborations with Ryan Hemsworth, Hucci, and others. And with ‘The King of Styles,’ the rising and multi-talented artist (he’s also a skilled deejay) steps out with his impressive debut EP. The four-track release bursts out of the gate with a banger that’ll be familiar to fans of Dollar Bin who have been watching his ascent. “DOG” may have dropped in 2015, but it’s just as massive today and makes for quite a first impression. Its rich bass and crazy percussive elements continue through the remaining cuts, especially “Do It Again,” which features another up-and-coming artist in Philly rapper Tunji Ige. He drives the potential of this record home when he spits, “Me and Dollar collab/ Them ni**as wasn’t ready.” Closing track “Pocket” takes on a different vibe, though that’s not to say it’s worthy of crushing any proper sound system. The pacing is just a touch more laid-back, though you may not realize it once those huge, distorted drums hit your cranium. That’s particularly true of the track’s second half, which picks up some steam with a wave of percussion that makes it easy to imagine a flash mob materialize before your eyes.
