Jim Jones On New York Hip-Hop Scene, Bobby Shmurda & More [Video]

VladTV correspondent Jenny Boom Boom sat down with Harlem’s own Jim Jones and got his take on the state of the NYC Hip-Hop scene and the common perception that Southern and West Coast rap has taken over, leaving NYC rap essentially dead. Jones doesn’t agree with this assessment, saying the NYC is where you come if you want to get a deal, and that no matter where you’re from, the checks get cut in New York. One thing he will admit, however, is that NYC artists are hesitant to collaborate with one another, as where artists from other regions help each other by collaborating and bigging each other up, which definitely works in their favor. Jones briefly shares his thoughts on Bobby Shmurda, saying that he likes the “Hot Ni**a” track and dance and may be open to collaborating with the young Brooklyn rapper depending on his musical output in the future. Bonus: Check out Jim Jones’ new video for “Still Repping Time” below.

Eric Bellinger On “Anaconda” Issue With Nicki Minaj [Video]

Singer/songwriter Eric Bellinger stopped by the VladTV offices and opened up about co-producing Nicki Minaj’s current smash, “Anaconda,” alongside Polow Da Don and Da Internz. Bellinger spoke about the collaboration in late July with MTV, only to have Nicki tweet that he had nothing to do with the record. Polow Da Don has also come out saying he’s not sure of exactly how Bellinger contributed to the song. When asked if the whole thing was simply a misunderstanding, or if Nicki was honestly not aware of his contributions, Bellinger says she was definitely aware, but that she likely had a problem with him being the first to speak on the song, as opposed to her being the first to publicize the record to the press. The “Fine China” writer says he completely understands that perspective, as it’s her song and she should be able to promote it as she sees fit. However, he felt it unnecessary for her to claim he had nothing to do with the record and to completely dismiss his contribution. At this point, the Grammy Award-winning writer says he hasn’t spoken to Nicki since, and is waiting to see if any of the other records they cut together will be making her album. Overall, however, he’s choosing to focus on the positive aspects of his career and not dwell on unfortunate situations like this one. The singer/songwriter also dished his thoughts on Iggy Azalea’s rumored sex tape.
