DJ Rhettmatic – Wonderlove: A Tribute Mix To Stevie Wonder [Mixtape]

May is the month of the Taurus and alot of my favorite musical legends & artists happened to be Tauruses; like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, & Ghostface Killah…and ironically, I’m a Taurus as well. My birthday falls on May 10th…and to continue the tradition of sharing some goodies in honor of my birthday as well as for my fellow Tauruses, I’m posting up this mix I did a few years back. I always wanted to do a mix on James Brown, but I realized that no one can do a James Brown mix better than my brother & fellow Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, so scratch that. I thought of doing one on Ghostface Killah, but I already did one a few years ago for the Ghostface Killah doll (which is now posted on my Soundcloud page). Strike number 2! Last but not least, there’s the legendary Stevie Wonder. I know that Dj Spinna & Bobbito Garcia aka Cucumber Slice are the masters when it comes to Stevie’s catalogue, but I actually made a mix that was originally a birthday gift for a good friend and is a big Stevie Wonder fan. Today is Mr. Stevie Wonder’s birthday (May 13), so I thought to myself, why not share it again with the people and also celebrate Stevie’s birthday….I just added an intro to the mix, and what you have now, is “Wonderlove”. Here’s the mix…hope you enjoy it, if you do, share it with your loved ones & other musical aficionados. Big

First Division feat. Roc Marciano – Grown Ups [Stream x Download]

When I was a kid, I wanted nothing more than to be an adult, but now that I am a big boy, I wish I could turn back the clock. Bills, rent, responsibilities… Grown Ups don’t have it as easy as I thought. In fact, about the only grown-up thing I can handle is this new single from First Division. The title is fitting, because this duo ain’t kidding around. Atop BeatWyze‘s fuzzy, boom bap-inspired beat, Shylow spits some no-nonsense bars in ardent, jabbing flows. Joining the pair is Booth regular Roc Marciano, who makes this record all the more grown-up with his commanding, veteran approach. Like their last feature, Three Times Dope, Grown Ups will appear on First Division’s upcoming, free project, The Critical Path Pt. 2, due out May 27, via The DJBooth.

Deniro Farrar – Rebirth [EP Stream]

The opening, title-song to Charlotte-based rapper Deniro Farrar’s forthcoming Rebirth EP uses a floating beat as the base for real talk and laments about his family. “Rebirth” is immediately answered by the fervid, melodramatic “Hold On.” Together the tracks fuse into one bipolar opener (“Rebirth/Hold On”) that exemplifies Farrar’s histrionic attitude on a track. His nagging reality, where he owns up to his responsibilities, adds even more down-to-earth stakes to the rapper’s personalty; Farrar has always excelled at down-in-it street tales delivered with a scrappy maturity. The deeply empathetic “Notice,” a song addressed to a single mom, stays from getting corny (or creepy!) and sits comfortably next to the epic trap-tinged gangsta rap track, “Bow Down” (which featuring Raider Klan associate Denzel Curry), and the compellingly hopeless, Lunice-produced banger, “Burning Bills.” [SPIN]
