Read moreYoung Los Angeles O.G., ScHoolboy Q, made his way to New York and the Alife Rivington Club for an impromptu Winter ALIFE Session. The backyard was once again filled with an intimate group of invited friends, all enjoying complimentary beers from Heineken and an east coast vs. west coast set of hip hop classics, courtesy of Kevin Sakoda. Guests were jubilant as always. Even more so considering we were blessed with clear skies and 40+ degree temperatures following a brutal Winter — bonafide hoodie weather. Q’s entrance into ALIFE was as expected…within a cloud of haze (or whatever green of choice). After taking some quick photos, he and his crew charged to the stage, opening up his set with a crowd favorite, “Collard Greens.” Turning things up almost immediately, he jumped in to “Man of the Year” followed by “Yay Yay.” Getting even deeper into his catalogue of tracks from his freshly bootlegged debut album, Oxymoron, Q lead into “What They Want,” saying that “this gon’ be tight as hell on radio.” Following with a few more songs, his performance closed with the opening track from his album, “Gangsta,” fading out with the chant “knock, knock-knock, knock-knock, yawk, gangsta shit, gangsta shit.” He and his crew hung around for a while, shaking hands, smoking with folks and taking pictures — eventually chunking the deuce and exiting the Riv.
