Oddisee & Good Compny – Hold It Back (Live) [Audio x Download]

Following the release of his trenchant, celebrated LP “The Iceberg” in winter of 2017, prolific MC/producer Oddisee and his band GoodCOMPNY embarked on a massive international tour that continues through the end of the year – they have played close to 100 shows already. While on this extensive initial international run between March and May, live recordings were made of songs from “The Iceberg” and from his extensive catalog, and will be released as Oddisee’s first-ever live album November 10th, titled “Beneath The Surface” (Mello Music Group). Oddisee and his deeply funky, muscular band flex through highlights from “The Iceberg” including the Go-go pocket of “NNGE”, the incensed “Like Really”, and his mission statement for the album, the plea for understanding that is “Things”. The album showcases an MC and his band charging through songs with an important message and having a blast on stage at the same time. After a trying battle with hearing loss and a number of surgeries, producer L’Orange preps his new album “The Ordinary Man” (out October 27th on Mello Music Group), a concept album about a superstar magician disillusioned with the world that made his greatness. Now fully deaf in one ear, this album marks a shift and growth for L’Orange towards an even tighter and developed sound while maintaining his sample-heavy knack for finding the essence of his influences in every beat. Oddisee – The Iceberg [Album Stream]

The prolific MC, producer and musician Oddisee’s new album ‘The Iceberg’ is a plea for humanity to dig deeper in search of understanding and common ground. His third release in just 12 months, ‘The Iceberg’ is a distillation of stereotypical tropes in hip-hop and beyond, 12 tracks about money, sex, politics, race and religion that appear superficial until his multi-dimensional lyrics unfurl to expose the complexities of individuality and identity: how we see ourselves and how others see us. Deeply soulful, and shot through with jazz, Go-go, gospel, thick r&b and hard beats, the album is a timely, poetic statement. ‘The Iceberg’ is out February 24 on Mello Music Group. Ringing in the New Year, Maryland MC Substantial teams with Mello Music Group producer and fellow DMV native Oddisee for the first official single off Substantial’s upcoming album, The Past Is Always Present In The Future. Made In Maryland is Substantial’s greatest ode to his home state since his debut solo single in 2000, Home Sweet Home, produced by the late japanese producer DJ Deckstream. The new single also features fellow Marylanders and frequent collaborators: vocalist, Steph the Sapphic Songstress and DJ Jav adding cuts utilizing vocals Joe.D. Here’s an early stream of Oddisee’s upcoming LP “The Odd Tape”, which officially drops next week. Take a listen below and pre-order your copy via Oddisee’s Bancamp page here. “The Odd Tape” revolves around the rhythms of the artist’s daily life. It starts in the morning with “Alarmed,” that sounds like if Shuggie Otis did a psychedelic eye-opening cover of Nas’ “Shootouts.” It rolls through “Right Side of the Bed,” with its glitter-gold sax lines, loose drums, and sunshine-slanting-through-the-blinds keyboards. Oddisee went from sampling to creating the eternal sounds of his original inspirations. You can hear older gods like Roy Ayers, Bob James, and Fela, but mostly you hear Oddisee continue to come into his own.
