KRS-One – Now Hear This [Album Stream]

“This album is raw”—this is one of the first things heard when you press play on NOW HEAR THIS, and raw it is! KRS-One puts on his headphones, checks on his lead producer DJ Predator Prime, and Boom! Song after song speaks with clarity, strength and substance! Much of the subject matter on NOW HEAR THIS deals with the current social challenges of our time and documents the often ignored views of America’s “other” citizens. KRS-One has always been ahead of his peers with beats and rhymes that have guided and developed Hip Hop itself, but with songs like “Drugs Won”, “American Flag”, “From the Beginning Again” and G Simone’s “Oh Cruel Mob” poem which concludes the album, KRS-One clearly leaps ahead of what is commonly called “hip-hop” today, and brings us right back to what original Hip Hop was always meant to be—THE UNAPOLOGETIC VOICE OF THE PEOPLE! Yes, we all like to party and get crazy at times; but not all of the time, and KRS-One’s NOW HEAR THIS project brilliantly balances salient social street issues with classic DJ and emcee party-rocking rhymes. Songs like “Duty”, “Let’s Go” and this week’s release “Sound Man” are sure to move the neck of any true Hip Hop head. Now Hear This The Album by KRS-One

KRS-One, A.G. & Tragedy Khadafi – Modern Day Gangsta [Stream]

“Modern Day Gangsta” is a verbal threat, a written retaliation to the current state of corruption riddling broad levels of our systems of authority. This wake up call to the passive, launches with TRAGEDY KHADAFI drawing comparison between political domination and ruling in the streets, with the lyrical finesse of a veteran steeped in 30 years of Queensbridge history. KRS ONE returns as “The Teacha”, educating us on the infiltration of corporate America by gangster tacticians. A.G. (DITC) characterizes one of the numerous victims of police murder with a sombre hostility that draws a firm line in the pavement. Three of Hip Hop’s luminaries combine over baneful strings delivered in a landscape of energy by producer STRICKNINE (MF Grimm, Thirstin Howl, Blaq Poet) to re-establish a message that is more relevant now than ever before: “I think it’s time we all stand up”.

KRS-One Gives Detailed Breakdown Of Hip Hop’s Prehistoric Roots [Video]

Hip-Hop scholar and Bronx native KRS-One spoke to Jonathan Gasana about the culture’s prehistoric roots, saying everyone on earth is a part of Hip Hop whether they realize it or not. He goes on to provide examples of Hip-Hop elements being used by early humans, such as early speech, graffiti, dancing as the first means of human communication, and scratching. The original “Blueprint” rapper also compared the elements of Hip-Hop to those of the periodic table and explains the differences between rap & Hip-Hop, and rappers & emcees.

DJ JS-1 feat. KRS & Torae – Klick Clique [Stream x Download]

While KRS-One and Torae haven’t cemented that connection just yet, “Klick Clique” could be the start of something new. Linking the Teacha with Da Young Veteran, the track serves as a reminder that the underground sound is alive and well. As both emcees ride DJ JS-1’s supplied production; KRS with his consonance heavy bars and Torae with his lyrical gymnastics — “Klick Clique” is one of the many standout tracks on DJ JS-1’s latest compilation album, It Is What It Isn’t, which is out now on iTunes and all major digital retailers, and is available on CD through via Fat Beats and UGHH. Cop the project from The Rock Steady Crew triple threat, today!
