DJ Shadow feat. Nas – Systematic [Video]

“Systematic”, the first-ever collaboration between DJ Shadow and Nas, now has a lyric video. The fiery, scathing song was unveiled last month during the season premiere of HBO’s “Silicon Valley”. It’s the first new piece of music from DJ Shadow since “The Mountain Will Fall” was released last year to raves on Mass Appeal Records. It’s been a busy spring for the legendary DJ and producer. He made his fifth career appearance at Coachella. He launched his own KCRW show called “Find, Share, Rewind” – which airs at 10PM the first Saturday of each month on KCRW. He also recently announced a July run of dates in the U.S. in addition to a 5-month international “The Mountain Will Fall” tour that will have him crossing the globe into October.

DJ Shadow feat. Nas – Systematic [Audio]

DJ Shadow and Nas unveil their first-ever collaboration with “Systematic”, which will also feature on the Season 4 premiere of HBO’s Silicon Valley April 23. The song finds Shadow and Nas joining forces over a deeply funky, boom-bap beat. Shadow’s deft touch of old-school turntablism and scratching sets the scene for a fiery, scathing performance from Nas. “Systematic” is the first track to be released from Mass Appeal Records’ forthcoming “Silicon Valley: The Soundtrack” out on June 16.

DJ Shadow feat. Nils Frahm – Bergschrund [Video]

DJ Shadow has unveiled a new visual for his Nils Frahm-assisted single “Bergschrund.” “Bergschrund” was directed by Matt Devine and stars Matthew Sunderland as an unsuspecting target of otherworldly activity. The track comes from DJ Shadow’s latest record, ‘The Mountain Will Fall,’ which was released earlier this year on Mass Appeal Records. Says director Matt Devine: “To me the track has a really cinematic and also science fiction tone to it. I wanted to make a film that really worked with this visually but also had a humor to it. It is also my favorite track from the album so I was honored to be asked to make something for it.” Says DJ Shadow: “Nils Frahm is an insanely smart composer. He created a sinewy, gated vintage synth line which I then expanded upon, hopefully to complimentary effect. Bergschrund is an obscure German word for a particular type of crevasse, or ice cliff, usually found on mountains at very high elevations.” “The Mountain Will Fall” available now here.

DJ Shadow – Three Ralphs [Video]

DJ Shadow has debuted a video for the song “Three Ralphs”, from his “The Mountain Will Fall” release on Mass Appeal Records. It’s a haunted, strobing animation set to Shadow’s dark, glitchy soundscape of minimalist beats. It was created by the artist Ruffmercy, who has worked with Earl Sweatshirt, Run The Jewels, Danny Brown, Dilla and Nas, and beyond. The album, Shadow’s first in four years, finds the pioneering DJ and producer exploring new realms of composition. It debuted at #1 on iTunes’ electronic chart in 16 countries and became Shadow’s first #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic chart in the US.

DJ Shadow feat. Run The Jewels – Nobody Speak [Video]

DJ Shadow has unveiled the music video for the song “Nobody Speak” featuring Run The Jewels, a standout track from his latest album ‘The Mountain Will Fall,’ out now on Mass Appeal Records. The video depicts a meeting of leaders that quickly descends into chaos, a scene not unlike what is unfolding in governments around the globe. It also features appearances by DJ Shadow and Run The Jewels. Says DJ Shadow: “We wanted to make a positive, life-affirming video that captures politicians at their election-year best. We got this instead.” Says Run The Jewels’ Killer Mike: “It’s such a dope video. It’s what I really wish Trump and Hillary would just do and get it over with…And even in that fight I think Hillary would win – and that’s not an endorsement.” The video was directed by Sam Pilling and produced by Pulse Films, stars Igor Tsyshkevych and Ian Bailey, and was shot in NYC, London and Ukraine.

SUPER… w/ DJ Shadow [Video]

Some of our SUPER… participants go wild with super powers and magical whips, some take it as a joke, some use it as a chance to talk conscious politics. DJ Shadow is pragmatic. His powers in this episode are some that directly help him in his day-to-day as a prolific electronic pioneer (who’s got a new album out, by the way). As the Net Dude, he’s able to scour major cities for all their records, weeding out the trash and only getting the dope shit. He also can rewind time to address the price hike of the music industry. His day-job as a Trenton, NJ-based baseball scout allows him to go incognito as he rides around in a Cadillac that only craps out when he’s already close to home. In his battle against people who only care quantity over quality, the Net Dude fights by continuing to only find the best shit. Watch DJ Shadow’s episode above.

DJ Shadow feat. Ernie Fresh – The Sideshow [Video]

DJ Shadow, widely acknowledged as a crucial figure in the development of experimental, instrumental hip-hop, has returned with “The Mountain Will Fall” via Mass Appeal Records [and Believe Digital in France], his first full length release since 2011. The 12-track album finds DJ Shadow exploring new realms in addition to the deep samples and kinetic soundscapes that helped to launch his career 20 years ago. On “The Mountain Will Fall” he’s shifted further toward original composition, a vast experimentation of beats and textures, synthesizers and live instruments including horns and woodwinds. The album features Run The Jewels, Nils Frahm, Matthew Halsall, Ernie Fresh and more.

DJ Shadow – The Mountain Will Fall [Video]

DJ Shadow has unveiled the first music video from his new album, ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ (out June 24 on Mass Appeal Records). The otherworldly, gorgeous video for the title track features an astronaut floating across a mysterious planet and hurtling through a distant universe synched to the song’s “rolling, meditative” (Vice Noisey) rhythm. The video was created and directed by Territory Studios, who has worked on some of the biggest films of the past few years (The Martian, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron), plus video games like Forza, Need For Speed, Killzone and more. Says director Marti Romances: “As huge fans, it’s been a pleasure to collaborate with DJ Shadow on the graphics. We’re really excited by the project and look forward to an amazing come back. The peaceful and long momentum of the song inspired us to create something very unanimated and mysterious. The part we like the most is where we see the astronaut being shot into hyperspace and then we see that being part of that cosmic constellation at the end.” DJ Shadow will host three Beats 1 shows this year, the first of which will air in June. The show will be called DJ Shadow Presents: #radioface. His BBC Essential Mix will debut on July 2. ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ is DJ Shadow’s first full-length release since 2011 and finds the groundbreaking artist shifting further toward original composition, experimentation, and live instrumentation. It features collaborations with Run The Jewels, Nils Frahm and

DJ Shadow feat. Run The Jewels – Nobody Speak [Audio]

DJ Shadow has unveiled a new song from his forthcoming album “The Mountain Will Fall“. The track is titled “Nobody Speak”, a collaboration with Run The Jewels. “The Mountain Will Fall” will be released June 24 on Mass Appeal Records and includes the previously released title-track, deemed “rolling, meditative” by Vice Noisey and premiered by Pitchfork along with an in-depth first interview with DJ Shadow. “Occasionally, I make a beat that demands a specific vocal treatment and attitude. In the case of ‘Nobody Speak,’ I wasn’t going to settle for anyone other than Run The Jewels; in my mind, it was them or no one. Fortunately, they agreed, and they took the track to a place I could never get to on my own. That’s the definition of a rewarding collaboration.” – DJ Shadow “Shadow is a legend and a friend. When he makes music he often changes music forever. When he asked us to jump on the record we didn’t blink.” – El-P of Run The Jewels “Nobody Speak” is part of the Run The Jewels’ Record Store Day release this Saturday. The RSD exclusive, dubbed “VRTJ” is a Virtual Reality cardboard viewer that comes with a download code for the collaborative track. DJ Shadow will host three Beats 1 shows this year, the first of which will air in June. The show will be called DJ Shadow Presents: #radioface.
