Dezert Eez – Late Night Cognac Sessions [Album Stream]

For their sixth studio LP, ‘Late Night Cognac Sessions,’ Michigan trio Dezert Eez combine the best elements of soulful Boom bap and rugged mafioso Rap to deliver a unique, engaging listening experience. The trio of Ron O’nill, Nivek, and 5-Star have been steadily dropping impressive projects since forming in 2003, and ‘LNCS’ may be their finest yet. It’s a tightly constructed, cohesive record that packs insight, bravado, and chilled-out raps into just ten tracks, all of which feature different producers. Dezert Eez carefully sifted through over 60 instrumentals submitted through various producers within their circle in hopes of curating the perfect sound for their album. “We’re artists so it wasn’t a big deal,” O’nill says of sorting through over 60 submissions in search of the perfect gems. “It was just a matter of making sure the vibe was there throughout the project,” he adds. The sound of ‘LNCS’ also pays homage to their influences (Native Tongues, the Wu-Tang Clan) while staying true to their roots. As 5-Star puts it, making the album was “easy for us,” as the trio has invariably supplied “hard lyrics and soulful beats” to their fans. With regards to their lyrics, Dezert Eez remains potent no matter the topic. The group takes a more introspective posture on the standout “Kerosene Lamps,” alongside frequent collaborator Bronze Nazareth, but they also light up and kick back with Talib Kweli on lead single, “Rolex Dreamin’.” The album’s only other guest feature is Skyzoo—”He is just dope!” Nivek notes—who appears

With their sixth album on the horizon, the Michigan-based crew, Dezert Eez deliver the crazy-smooth and laid-back lead single, “Rolex Dreamin.” The track is anchored by tack-sharp verses from the group’s members in addition to a slick opening feature from Brooklyn’s own, Talib Kweli. Of course, anyone who’s been following Dezert Eez since their 2005 debut mixtape, ‘The Realness,’ knows these guys and Kweli are a perfect musical match. That’s particularly true of Hip-Hop heads who favor technical prowess and an ear for top-notch production. And if not, then consider yourself pretty damn lucky, because “Rolex Dreamin” is one hell of an introduction to the trio of 5-Star, Nivek, and O’Nill. Dezert Eez feat. Bronze Nazareth – Iron Angelz [Stream]

Consisting of 5-Star, O’Nill & Nivek, Dezert Eez formed at Western Michigan University, located in Kalamazoo, MI (the “Microbrew Capital”) and after performing on the local circuit for a year, the trio began making waves in Detroit’s underground scene. In early 2005, Dezert Eez released its first mixtape, The Realness, which won widespread critical praise that focused especially on the group’s lyrics. The buzz helped them earn a raft of high-profile outside gigs, including shows with KRS-1, Dead Prez, Slum Village and a mini tour with Wu Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck. Dezert Eez leapt to a bigger stage in 2008 when 5-Star teamed up with C-Rayz Walz, Killah Priest, and Bronze Nazareth to form The Almighty. The album also featured hip hop legends Canibus, Keith Murray, and Planet Asia. In 2009, Dezert Eez inked a deal with Universal and released their debut album Ghettobox. Since then, the group has released three mixtapes, Call of Duty: The Black Ops, which featured Raekwon, Killah Priest, La the Darkman, One.Be.Lo and Bronze Nazareth, We Own the Summer which featured One.Be.Lo, Mike Posner and Mos Def and more recently, The Microbrew, which featured INS Deck, Willie The Kid and Bronze Nazareth. The name Dezert Eez (Desert Eagle) is symbolic of a weapon created in Israel and then later brought to the states to be manufactured much like the Original Man. The group’s very first recording together was entitled “Declaration of War,” and now with their new upcoming album Magnificent Swords and Fly Jewelz, Dezert
