Rakim, Kurupt & Masta Killa – The Godbody [Album Stream]

Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa connect East and West across The Godbody, produced primarily by Rakim and Nick Wiz with an extensive veteran guest cast.

Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa already tested the combination on “Be Ill,” the 2024 opener from Rakim’s G.O.D.’s Network – Reb7rth. Two years later, that meeting has grown into The Godbody, with the connection between East and West built into the album rather than treated as a one-song novelty.

The record works through a rotating cast instead of forcing its three principals onto every track. Rakim gets “A Different Kind” to himself, Masta Killa takes “Nights Over Brooklyn,” and Kurupt closes his solo turn with “Nine & Chrome Fiend.” Elsewhere, the circle widens strategically: “Rock Ya Body” brings Daz Dillinger together with Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, while “Still Ill!” puts KRS-One and Kool G Rap alongside the core trio. Even the Eminem and Jay-Z billing is confined to the 1:09 “God Speak” interlude.

That structure gives the album’s cross-coastal premise something more concrete than an all-star guest list. Rakim and Nick Wiz provide the production backbone throughout, with Nick Price handling Masta Killa’s “Nights Over Brooklyn,” allowing the lineup to change without turning The Godbody into a compilation of disconnected appearances.

The finished album arrives after a rollout that moved from Rakim’s solo “A Different Kind” through “Goin Down,” “DPG – WU TANG, WU TANG – DPG,” “Rabbit,” and “Rock Ya Body.” What started with three veteran MCs sharing space has ultimately become a broader exercise in connecting their respective corners of hip-hop without flattening the distinctions between them.
