Quavo feat. T.I. – Backwards [Audio]

Quavo and T.I. connect two generations of Atlanta rap over Pharrell Williams’ production on the new song “Backwards.”

“Backwards” connects two generations of Atlanta rap without forcing either one to adjust his character. Quavo handles the record with his clipped melodic phrasing, while T.I. answers with the sharper, more densely packed delivery that helped define an earlier era of the city’s sound.

Pharrell Williams supplies the production, making the collaboration part of a larger creative partnership rather than an isolated pairing. He is also producing Quavo’s forthcoming album QRÖMELIFE, with “Backwards” offering another look at how that partnership places Quavo’s voice in a broader Southern rap lineage.
