YNW Melly – Collect Call II [Album Stream]

Nearly a decade after the original Collect Call EP, YNW Melly returns to the title with a short, unsettled dispatch from a career still suspended.

After appearing on Trippie Redd’s NDA earlier this month, Melly now gets the full frame to himself. Released while he remains incarcerated awaiting a retrial in his double-murder case, Collect Call II carries the strange weight of a current album whose recording timeline has not been made public. It sits somewhere between a present-tense comeback and an archival release, even though the music keeps Melly’s voice firmly in the foreground.

The nine songs lean into the contrast that has always made Melly difficult to reduce to one lane. The harder material is driven by trap-heavy production and a more aggressive rap delivery, while the melodic R&B instinct that made him stand out in the first place surfaces most clearly in “Switcharoo” and “My Love.” Ty Dolla $ign adds another melodic counterweight on “Late Night,” and Hotboii helps keep the guest appearances from overwhelming the record.

The most striking pairing arrives on “Casket,” where a posthumous King Von appearance meets Fredo Bang. Fredo and Melly previously connected on “Brazy,” giving the collaboration a little history beyond the tracklist. The guests remain accents around Melly’s voice rather than substitutes for it.

At its best, Collect Call II makes the case for continuity: Melly’s voice still moves from menace to melody without flattening either side. The album cannot resolve the uncertainty around its timeline, but it does keep its central character unmistakable.
