Jorja Smith – What Are The Odds [Album Stream]
Jorja Smith’s What Are The Odds pairs P2J’s club-rooted production with songs about love, friendship, change, and self-reflection.
Jorja Smith has always kept movement close to her music; What Are The Odds makes it the way she processes what will not stay still. The dancefloor is not an escape hatch on her third album but the setting for love, friendship, grief, doubt, and a changing sense of self.
Her connection with P2J goes back to “Little Things” from Falling Or Flying, but the pair pushes that foundation further here through UK garage, 2-step, UK funky, and Afro-house. The rhythms move fast; Smith’s voice and writing refuse the easy uplift that often comes with that territory. Her songs keep the awkwardness of relationships audible instead of treating the club as a place where it all disappears.
The rollout had already drawn the album’s emotional map. “What’s Done Is Done” turns the end of a relationship into forward motion; “Alive” with Wizkid makes room for new desire; and “I Lied, You Lied” stays with the exhaustion of mixed signals. Devlin re-records his 2010 “London City” verse for “This City,” tying the project’s wider dance vocabulary back to a specific city and its musical memory. What Are The Odds never mistakes release for resolution, but it finds a way through.
