Chaka Khan’s return to A COLORS SHOW has a deliberate order. A month after she revisited “Through The Fire,” she puts “Curious Subject,” one of the new songs from Chakzilla, in the same spotlight.

The chronology is the story. “Through The Fire” is a classic with four decades of history behind it; “Curious Subject” is too new to lean on any of that. Showing both in the same series brings the old standard and Chakzilla into direct conversation, rather than staging the forthcoming album as an addendum to Khan’s catalog. The record arrives September 18, her first full-length in seven years.
