Lu Chin Chen – Height [EP]

Lu Chin Chen releases Height, an eight-track boom-bap EP featuring production from Frost Gamble, Sultan Mir, Zam One and more, plus cuts by Dystrakted.

Height follows his 2024 album Dangerous Solution. Across eight tracks, the Massachusetts rapper works with a different producer on each cut: Frost Gamble, Sultan Mir, Conflikt of Hellzwind, Zam One, P-Ro, Tali Rodriguez, Skinny Bonez Tha Godfatha, and Fuzzy Ed all contribute to the EP’s Golden Era-minded boom-bap sound.

Lu handles every rhyme and vocal without bringing in another MC. Dystrakted provides the only guest contributions, supplying cuts for “Bad News,” “Cheque It Out,” and the closing track, “Call the Ambulance.” Zam One’s hard drums give “Cheque It Out” plenty of room for punchlines and playful bars, while Dystrakted shapes the chorus and bridge with his turntable work.

Mark Downie mixed and mastered Height, continuing a working relationship with Lu Chin Chen that dates back to 2004. The result stays rooted in the essentials: varied production, uninterrupted verses from Lu and scratches woven directly into the arrangements. An animated video for the Fuzzy Ed-produced “Call the Ambulance” is also scheduled for later in July, with Kaleb Bumboclap returning after previously animating “23 Guinnesses” from the 2023 EP, Weight.
