The Doppelgangaz keep promoting Beats for Brothels, Vol. 9 with the “Must Be Dreamin’” video, pairing ambition and persistence with trademark Dopp humor.
The Doppelgangaz have put visuals behind “Must Be Dreamin’,” one of the closing cuts from their new Beats for Brothels, Vol. 9 project. Matter ov Fact and EP turn years of grinding, low expectations, and belated recognition into another dose of Dopp mythology. A repeated hook imagines the Gangaz at the top, while tightly packed verses ground those ambitions in warped jokes, strange details, and the duo’s unmistakable P.U. vocabulary.
Straightforward motivational rap was never likely. “Must Be Dreamin’” treats success as something faintly absurd: a vision assembled from persistence, scheming, and the conviction that nobody represents this particular corner of underground rap quite like they do. Deadpan punchlines sit beside internal rhymes and sideways flexes, making the title sound less like disbelief than a refusal to wake up.
Released June 26, Beats for Brothels, Vol. 9 contains 18 tracks, with “Must Be Dreamin’” appearing at No. 17. The Doppelgangaz wrote, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered the entire record, maintaining the self-contained approach that has shaped their catalog. Its latest video joins clips for “Just Another Day in the P.U.” and “What’s Going awn?” in expanding the project’s cloaked-out world.
