Maxo does not soften the edges on O.Y.N. The Houston rapper’s new album runs through nine tracks entirely produced by JPEGMAFIA, which gives the project a tighter and more unpredictable pulse than a standard Maxo release. Peggy’s production shifts between heavy low-end, warped synth pressure, funkier pockets, and rougher textures, while Maxo stays locked into the blunt, detail-heavy writing that has always separated him from rappers who only gesture at street realism.

The album follows 2024’s Personification and brings in a small but sharp guest list: Denzel Curry appears on “30 N Dirty” and “Fake Jeezy,” Isaiah Falls joins “Cum Over,” and Josh Kream shows up on “How I’m Coming.” Across the record, Maxo keeps his storytelling compact, moving from survival talk and flexes into addiction, family, grief, and legacy without making the emotional turns feel forced.

That deeper thread is clearest around “Time Out,” which connects the album’s personal weight to Maxo’s search for family roots and Nigerian heritage. The video, filmed in Lagos, lets that side of the record breathe without turning it into a documentary moment. “Fake Jeezy,” meanwhile, hits from the opposite direction: Denzel Curry and Maxo attack JPEGMAFIA’s beat with full force, backed by a wild visual built around a giant CGI snowman and pure rap-video chaos.
